The Ellsworth Panthers girls’ basketball team has a good chance to add two more Middle Border Conference wins in their next two matchups. St. Croix Central and Osceola are just a combined 1-9 in conference play this season. Osceola won 46-28 when the two faced off in early December.
The Panthers lost to a tough Northwestern squad in late December that currently boasts a record of 8-1. After falling to the Prescott Cardinals, the Panthers are 3-7 this season with just one of the wins coming in conference play. There’s a good chance that will change soon.
Senior Kaitlyn Nugent leads the team in scoring with more than 15 points per outing. Junior Autumn Earney is close behind, scoring an average of over 14 points per game. Nugent is also averaging nine rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.6 steals per game for the Panthers. Junior Brianna Giese is contributing 2.5 assists and 2.4 steals to help her teammates on both ends of the court. Earney is close behind, chipping in another 1.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game for the active Panthers defense.
