Ellsworth girls tennis wrapped up a great season in a deserving way, as senior No. 1 doubles pairing Alissa Davis and Brooke Olson competed at State individually.
The two won 6-2, 6-0 over the duo from Barron at Sub-Sectionals to move on to Sectionals at Altoona. The Panthers won 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 over Barron Newman Catholic and lost 0-6, 6-3, 7-10 to Pacelli to enter a third-place game for all the marbles. There, the pairing won 6-4, 6-3 over Medford to move on to State. At State, they were defeated by the St. Mary Catholic duo 1-6, 2-6.
This season was a special one for the entire Panther team, competing at a high level against some tough conference and area teams. A part of that success stemmed from the team’s massive senior class of eight.
“It’s huge. Our first year they had five seniors, then there were three seniors, now there’s eight. “It’s just a lot of the underclassmen look up,” Olson said back on senior night. “It’s definitely sad, but we’ve come a long way. A lot of us have done really good.”
Olson said she hopes the senior class made a lasting impact on the program, and that it falls on the underclassmen to carry on the legacy.
