Another Monday and another fun story. This time, from Frances. The song was “Hey, Good Lookin’” and Frances told of going to the bar with her sister-in-law.

Stacey asked, “You went in the bar?” Frances said, “Yes, that was the only place to go in Maiden Rock back then!”

After finding a seat, a gentle man came up to Frances and began to sing this song. Stacey asked, “Who was he?”

Frances whispered, “Roger!”

And, oh, the giggles from the rest of us! What a wonderful way to start the week. Our seniors have plenty of stories and wisdom to share, if you will simply take the time to listen. The afternoon included a time of munching and milling about as the popcorn social provided such. There was time for a fun game of tic-tac-toss just before supper arrived. There were a number of ties this week: Dorothy Pfaue, Ivan Mason (fourth place); Milda Bautch, Nancy Bishop (third place): Goldie Helwig, Alvin Bergmark (second place); and sharing the spotlight with no one and in first place: Shir ley Klinski. Our day was complete with an evening of bingo.

Mass and communion with Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel began our Tuesday morning. It was a nice time of worship. Folks stayed around for a good game of Name That Tune until lunch arrived. It’s often divcult to concentrate on song titles with the delicious smells coming from our kitchen!

Regardless, we did our best to guess the song titles and Laura couldn’t stump us even once! Shirley Klinski took top honors with 17 correct answers. Mary Ellen Coulson was close behind with 14. Rosie Brion and Goldie Helwig tied with four each and Milda Bautch jumped in with two correct song titles.

The afternoon ouered a time for baking. Apples were the main course as it should be this time of year! We peeled, chopped and diced apples for a large pan of apple crisp.

The topping was mixed and popped into the oven. We had a nice worship service with Pastor Phil from the Evangelical Free Church while our crisp was baking.

Our evening ended with a dice game called “Cover the Number” and Lorraine Anderson was our big winner.

Wednesday welcomes our bowling helpers from the local schools. This week’s helpers were Brayden Diesing and Mary Peterson from the Plum City Elementary School. They did a fine job setting pins and had exemplary math skills with score keeping! Winners this week were: Nancy Bishop (fourth), Milda Bautch (third), Shirley Klinski, Alvin Bergmark (second), and first place champ Frances White. Fruit bingo was on the agenda for the afternoon. The first and second grade class from Ave Maria Academy joined us. They are just learning their numbers but were able to capture a few “BINGOs” during out time together. We love the energy and enthusiasm these adorable youngsters bring into our home.

Black out winner this week was Rosie Brion. The time had finally arrived to sam ple our apple crisp which we made the day before. We heated it through and served it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. What deliciousness!

Everyone had their fill and then some. A dollop of con- versation topped ou the af ternoon.

It was a Harriet Rothe type of morning and she never disappoints. She brought news from the surrounding communities and some from days long ago with the Maiden Rock Press. Lunch followed and it was on to manicures. Our nails come in many colors and some ladies are opt to choose two colors!

Then there’s always the glitter gals who like to top everything with a coat of glitter polish. Soon enough, Brad arrived with his adorable puppies. It’s a good thing he counts them or there might be a few missing come time to pack up and head home.

Loving on these puppies is good for them and very good for us! Supper soon arrived and a few folks stayed up to play Pokeno. This week’s big winner was Ivan Mason.

Friday drummers arrived in full force on Friday. We play all kinds of music but the favorite seems to be “In The Mood” from the 40’s.

What a great song to end our drumming time with a bang! The afternoon had the snack makers putting together some “Yummy Munch” which included corn chips, brown sugar, and Chex ce- real. It’s always a hit with nothing left over. Then we settled in for a terrific hour of music from Jeu Bechel. He plays all our favorites and keeps things hopping – even between songs! Granny Janny and Vicki added some of their own silliness and the party ensued. Supper was served and soon after we settled in for our Friday night movie. This month’s movies have a Halloween theme. Our movie this Friday was “Death Becomes Her.”

The leaves are turning and the season is changing. We hope you will take the time to come and visit before the snow flies. We love having company. See you soon!

We always enjoy the kids from the Ave Maria Academy joining us for bingo, but it’s even more fun to play with your great-grandpa Herb Tschumperlin, shown here with Grace. Photo courtesy of Laura Kadlec
