ELLSWORTH – On June 21, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office recognized citizen Debbie Baier for heroic action that may have saved an officer’s life in December.
According to Pierce County Sheriff Nancy Hove, a deputy was on a traffic stop at which the suspect exited their car and started physically fighting with the officer, attempting to disarm them.
Baier witnessed the struggle and called 911 immediately for help. A deputy arrived moments later and helped the other officer place the suspect into custody.
“I waited until COVID was not the forefront of everyone’s attention to give Debbie the recognition she deserves,” said Hove in a Facebook post. “Debbie, on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office I would like to thank you for making the call that cold December day. Your efforts quite likely saved a life. We greatly appreciate you!”
