Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash at 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 16 on State Road 29 at US Highway 63 in the town of Martell.
A 2013 Ford Escape was heading westbound on State Road 29 when it crossed Highway 63 and drove straight into a tree. The vehicle then started on fire.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Authorities are still working to identify the driver. Jhulissa Sarango Minga, 30, Hudson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, arrived later in the day at River Falls Area Hospital by private vehicle with undisclosed injuries.
St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, River Falls Fire, Spring Valley EMS, Spring Valley Fire and United Fire assisted PCSO at the scene. The case remains under investigation.
