Cards have 4-1 record so far

After finishing fourth in the Middle Border Conference with a 19-10 record in 2019, the Cardinals are off to a hot 4-1 start under new head coach Nick Johnson.

Prescott defeated Cadott in both games as part of a doubleheader last week Tuesday by scores of 17-7 and 12-3. The Cardinals won over Somerset last Thursday, 7-3. Powerhouse Altoona edged the Cardinals in the first game at home last Saturday, 4-2. Prescott beat Elk Mound 11-0 later in the day and traveled to New Richmond on Tuesday night after the printing of this publication. With last season being cancelled, many spring rosters only have one or two familiar faces. Prescott, on the other hand, is returning contributors Isabella Lenz, Sydney Matzek, Heather Hudak, Brynley Goehring, Ariana Temmers and Liz Rohl.

The Cardinals will look to their three seniors in Lenz, Matzek and Hudak, along with captains Temmers and Rohl.

“We feel we have two very good pitchers which gives us an advantage over many teams we'll face,” Johnson stated. “We also believe we can be a good hitting team from top to bottom. We need to continue to get better defensively to become a complete team.”

Prescott is looking to improve all year long to set the stage for a strong finish.

“With almost two years off, we need to continue to develop as a team,” Johnson said. “Many of these girls have never played together. Our goal is to improve with each practice and game. This has to be our number one priority. With such a shortened season, there is no time to take steps backwards. We feel we have a team that should compete for a conference championship and make a deep playoff run.”
