Officers were notified of a hit and run at 11:40 p.m. Aug. 22 at County Road K and 820th Street in the town of Trimbelle. A 2022 Chevy Silverado, driven by Zachary Joseph Diederich, 28, Ellsworth, failed to obey a stop sign, ran off the road and landed in the northern ditch of County Road K. The driver left the scene without calling police. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Diederich was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control, fail/stop at stop sign and failure of operator to notify police of accident.
Police responded at 6:41 a.m. Aug. 25 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 63 just north of 760th Avenue in the town of Martell between a 2014 GMC Sierra, driven by Roger Charles Wiff, 73, Spring Valley, and a 2021 Deer RCT 350 broom truck, driven by Peter James Williams, 51, Knapp. Williams was traveling south on Highway 63 in the road construction zone with one way traffic due to lane closure. He was sweeping the right shoulder of the road. Wiff, who was traveling south through the zone, got to close to the broom while passing and collided with the sweeper, causing moderate damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 3:21 p.m. Aug. 25 at Highway 63 and 150th Street in the town of Trenton between a 2024 Ford Maverick, driven by Donald Arthur Sticht, 72, Maiden Rock, and a 2019 Subaru Outback, driven by Elvira E. E. Sigmund, 88, Hager City. Sticht was traveling south on Highway 63 through a construction zone with one lane of travel open. Sigmund was heading west on 150th Avenue approaching the highway and stopped at the stop sign. Construction workers and a flagger were there as well. Sigmund thought the flagger directed her to turn northbound onto the highway and struck Sticht’s rear driver’s side, causing moderate damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Police were notified of a one-vehicle mishap at 5:53 p.m. Aug. 26 at W57999 290th Ave. in the town of Trenton. A 2005 Freight Dump Truck, driven by Cody Dominique Flowers, 32, Eau Claire, had finished dumping a load of gravel on the eastern edge of the driveway and was turning right to back onto the driveway heading north. The dump box snagged overhanging wires of a nearby utility pole and broke them. Flowers didn’t know the wires were snagged on the dump box until afterward. The vehicle had no damage.
Deputies were called at 5;40 a.m. Aug. 29 to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 63 and County Road VV in the town of Trenton between a 2012 Honda Pilot, driven by Patrick Lee Lynner, 56, Hager City, and a 2014 GMC Yukon, driven by Carole Gene Diercks, 84, Bay City. Diercks pulled out from a stop sign and struck Lynner’s passenger side while he was driving south on Highway 63. Both vehicles had moderate damage. Lynner reported no injuries, while Diercks reported possible injuries but was not transported. She appeared to be confused and disoriented. She was cited for fail/yield right/way from stop sign.
Police were dispatched at 11:19 a.m. Sept. 1 to a two-vehicle crash on 785th Street just north of 180th Avenue in the town of Trenton between a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country, driven by Marlis E. Flynn, 88, Hager City, and a legally parked 2014 Ford F150, owned by Jodi C. Donaldson, Red Wing, Minn. Flynn was backing out of a parking stall when she collied with Donaldson’s bumper, causing minor damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Officers responded at 9:43 p.m. Sept. 3 to a two-vehicle crash at 332 S. Woodworth St. in Elmwood. A 2008 Ford Focus, driven by Joshua David Swanson, 34, Comstock, was traveling eastbound on May Avenue, entered the yard at 332 S. Woodworth St. and struck a legally parked 2005 Chevy Silverado, owned by Lois Ann Adank, Elmwood. Swanson fled the scene. His vehicle was towed due to disabling damage, while Adank’s truck had moderate damage. Swanson was cited failure of operator to notify police of accident, failure to keep vehicle under control and hit and run – unattended vehicle.
Police were dispatched to a motorcycle crash at 9:39 p.m. Sept. 10 on County Road QQ just west of 1090th Street in the town of Oak Grove. A 1994 Honda CBR600, operated by Jaren Paul Spridco, 21, River Falls, was traveling north approaching a sharp curve, lost control and entered the west ditch. The motorcycle tipped onto its left side and slid about 20 yards through the ditch before stopping. The motorcycle, which had moderate damage, was towed. Spridco, who wore a helmet, reported no injuries.
Deputies were notified of a hit and run at 5:48 p.m. Sept. 13 on Highway 10 just west of 810th Street in the town of Trimbelle. A 2011 Chevy Equinox, driven by Carsen Matthew Stockwell, 21, Ellsworth, was traveling eastbound on Highway 10 when he began passing an unknown vehicle and struck it in the rear as he passed. Both vehicles kept going and didn’t contact police. Stockwell’s vehicle had minor damage. He was cited for OWI-second and unsafe cutting in when passing.
Police were notified of a hit and run at 2:58 p.m. Sept. 15 on Highway 63 just south of 490th Street in the town of Martell. An unknown vehicle heading north veered off the east shoulder and struck two sign posts before fleeing the scene.
Officers responded at 8:40 a.m. Sept. 20 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just west of County Road O in the town of Diamond Bluff between a 2021 Chevy Bolt, driven by Cathy Ann White, 70, Hager City, and a 2012 Dodge R5, driven by Colten Christopher Black, 20, Dennison, Minn. White was traveling north, signaling to turn left onto 290th Avenue when Black rear-ended them. Neither driver nor passenger Winston Carl White, 82, reported injuries. The Chevy was towed due to disabling damage, while the Dodge had minor damage.
Police were called at 8:10 p.m. Sept. 20 to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 10 and 280th Avenue in the town of Union between a 2012 Chevy Equinox, driven by Adan Chipahua Contreras, 30, Plum City, and a 2002 Ford F250, driven by Charles Nelson Girdeen, 24, Menomonie. Girdeen was traveling eastbound on Highway 10. Contreras was turning right onto 10 from 280th Avenue, swung too wide and crossed the center line into Girdeen’s lane. Girdeen tried to swerve, but the vehicles collided. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Police transported Contreras to Advent Health in Durand due to suspected alcohol consumption. EMS Air transported his passengers, Carlos Fernando Macuixtle Calihua, 21, Plum City, to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with suspected serious injuries and Marcos Calihua Panzo, 18, Plum City, to Mao Hospital in Eau Claire with suspected serious injuries; those two wore no seat belts. Girdeen reported no injuries. Contreras was cited for cause injury/OWI, operate without valid license, operate motor vehicle without insurance, operating left of center and keep open intoxicants in motor vehicle – driver.
Officers were dispatched at 12:20 a.m. Sept. 21 to a two-vehicle crash on Main Street just south of Wilson Avenue in Elmwood between a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Jenny Colleen Forster, 50, Elmwood, and a legally parked 2013 Chevy Silverado, owned by Paul David Unser, Elmwood. Forster was heading south on Main Street when she rear-ended Unser’s vehicle. She removed her Jeep, which had moderate damage, from the scene before police arrived. Alcohol use was a suspected factor. Unser’s vehicle had minor damage. Forster was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and OWI. No injuries were reported.
Deputies were called to a one-vehicle crash at 5:13 p.m. Sept. 21 on 452nd Street 6/10 of a mile north of 120th Avenue in the town of Maiden Rock. A 2006 Nissan Titan, driven by Derek Daniel Koch, 32, Bay City, was traveling east on 452nd, crossed the center line and ran off the road into the ditch, where it overturned onto its driver’s side. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Koch reported no injuries. He was cited for operating while revoked (alcohol related), failure to keep vehicle under control, failure to transfer vehicle title and failure of operator to notify police of accident.
Officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 7:05 a.m. Sept. 22 on Highway 63 just south of County Road N in the town of Ellsworth. A 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by John Charles Campion, 65, Clear Lake, was traveling northbound on Highway 63 when Campion fell asleep, drifted left, crossed the center line and entered the west ditch. He went through a barbed wire fence and into a standing bean field. The vehicle had moderate damage. Campion reported no injuries; he was cited for operating left of center.
Police were notified of a hit and run at 9:04 a.m. Sept. 23 on 1250th Street just north of County Road F in the town of Clifton. An unknown vehicle heading south entering the southwest corner of the intersection, struck a stop sign and left the scene.
Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 25 at the intersection of Highway 35 and County Road VV in the town of Trenton between a 2023 Kia Sol, driven by Robert Lee Moyer, 79, Hager City, and a 2020 Subaru Outback, driven by Jerritt Maxwell Smith, 25, Golden Valley, Minn. Moyer was stopped at the stop sign at County Road VV and Highway 35. He thought he had enough time to go through the intersection, but caused a T-bone crash with Smith, who was southbound on Highway 35. Smith skidded to the south, overturned and crashed into a guardrail. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Neither driver nor Smith’s passenger, Sara Jane Krebsbach, 26, Golden Valley, Minn., reported injuries.
Officers were notified of a hit and run at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 26 that occurred at 8 a.m. on County Road BB one-quarter mile south of Highway 29 in the town of Gilman. A caller reported that a vehicle had struck a bank of mailboxes and left the scene. One mailbox was found 50 feet down the road.
Deputies were dispatched at 7:04 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 to a motorcycle crash with injuries on County Road F near State Highway 29 in the town of Clifton. A 2009 Harley Davidson, operated by Gary Paananen, 56, Cottage Grove, Minn., was traveling southbound on County Road F when he lost control and entered the ditch. Paananen’s passenger was identified as Shannon Paananen, 56, Cottage Grove, Minn. Allina EMS transported both people to Regions Hospital in St. Paul; Gary Paaananen had suspected serious injuries, while Shannon Paananen had suspected minor injuries. The motorcycle was towed due to disabling damage. Neither rider wore a helmet. Alcohol use was a suspected factor. Gary Paananen was cited for operate motorcycle without valid license and non-registration of auto.
Officers responded at 3:09 p.m. Sept. 28 to a one-vehicle crash on 550th Street just north of 250th Avenue in the town of Hartland. A 2014 Freight Convention semi-truck, driven by Brody Alexander Warthan, 18, Cashton, was operating a silage truck westbound on 250th Avenue with a tarp on top of it. The tarp blew off at the intersection and caught a guide wire and tore the line down. The truck had minor damage. Warthan reported no injuries.
Deputies were dispatched at 1:57 a.m. Sept. 30 to a one-vehicle crash at Highway 10 and County Road J in the town of Trimbelle. A 2013 Nissan Altima, driven by Roberto Genaro Bassat, 37, Ellsworth, was traveling south on County Road J, failed to stop at the stop sign and continued south into a ditch, where it struck a directional sign. The vehicle continued for 20 yards before striking a tree. Bassat left the scene before police arrived. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Bassat was cited for fail/stop at stop sign and failure to keep vehicle under control.
Police were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 8:11 p.m. Oct. 2 on County Road J just north of County Road N in the town of Ellsworth. A 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by Candace Nichola Puckett, 4, Baldwin, was heading north on J when it struck a guardrail on the road’s east side. Puckett said she had to swerve out of her lane to avoid an oncoming black sedan. Her vehicle had moderate damage; she reported no injuries.
Deputies were dispatched at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 3 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 63 one-third mile north of County Road DD in the town of Ellsworth. A 2016 Ford Explorer, driven by Katherine Ruth Johnson, 44, Pine Island, Minn., was heading north when it had a suspension or possible steering malfunction. Johnson lost control, skidded back and forth and collided with a guardrail on the highway’s west side. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
Officers responded at 2:32 p.m. Oct. 3 to a two-vehicle crash in a parking lot on Orrin Road in Prescott. A 2020 GMC Terrain, driven by Margene Mary Rohr, 63, Hastings, Minn., was backing out of a parking space and backed into a 2025 Ford Explorer Prescott police squad that was unoccupied and parked behind it. The squad had no damage while Rohr’s vehicle had minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Police were called at 8:44 a.m. Oct. 4 to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 10 and County Road DD in the town of Ellsworth between a 2016 BMW 750, driven by Chayse Michael Pederson, 16, Beldenville, and a2017 Dodge Caravan, driven by Marie Madeline Kettersmith, 64, Minneapolis. Pederson pulled out into the intersection in front of Kettersmith, who was heading east on Highway 10, causing the two to collide. He said he didn’t see her vehicle coming. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Kettersmith reports suspected minor injuries but was not transported, while Pederson and Kettersmith’s passenger, Ann Marie Cosgrove, 67, Minneapolis, reported no injuries.
Deputies were dispatched at 10:04 a.m. Oct. 4 to a two-vehicle crash on County Road FF just east of County Road QQ in the town of Cliton between a 1998 Chevy GMT400, driven by Gary Joseph Pechacek, 66, River Falls, and a 2025 Ford Maverick, driven by Daniel Boyd Huppert, 77, Beldenville. Pechacek moved to the left across the center of the road to give space to a parked vehicle on the side of the road. As he was coming back into his lane, Huppert rear-ended him in the back right side. Huppert thought Pechacek was turning left into a field drive and was trying to go by on the right. Neither driver reported injuries. Pechacek’s Chevy had moderate damage, while Huppert’s vehicle had minor damage but was towed.
Police were notified of a hit and run at 4:33 p.m. that occurred at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 6 in the parking lot of 600 Main St., Plum City. An unknown vehicle struck a legally parked 2018 GMC Terrain, owned by Dorothy Jean Cline, Plum City, and left the scene. The GMC had minor damage.
Deputies responded at 7:28 a.m. Oct. 8 to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 29 and County Road W in the town of River Falls. A 2023 Tami Cement truck, driven by Joseph John Mischke, 56, River Falls, was traveling east on Highway 29 when a 2019 Chevy Silverado, driven by Eliseo Martin Mendoza, 28, Fridley, Minn., turned eastbound onto 29 from W, striking the cement truck. The cement truck had disabling damage. The Chevy was towed due to disabling damage. Neither driver nor Mendoza’s passengers, Diego Fernando Gavilanez Tipan, 31, Burnsville, Minn., and Juan Luis Lutuala Ilaquiche, 33, Burnsville, Minn., reported injuries. Mendoza was cited for failure to yield right of way.
Police were dispatched at 3:52 p.m. Oct. 9 to a two-vehicle crash on County Road F one-third of a mile west of 1015th Street in the town of River Falls between a 2012 Chevy Silverado, driven by Brian Steven Miller, 43, Hammond, and a 2010 Subaru Forester, driven by David John Stapleton, 17, River Falls. As Miller slowed down to turn into a driveway on the south side of County Road FF, Stapleton attempted to brake but rear-ended him. The Chevy had moderate damage while the Subaru was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
Deputies were notified of a hit and run at 4:34 p.m. Oct. 9. A 2012 Chevy Cruze was found unoccupied and on its roof in the south ditch of Highway 35 just north of 468th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. The vehicle had been there for several days. It was towed due to disabling damage. The driver is unknown.
Deputies responded at 1:04 a.m. Oct. 14 to a hit and run on County Road S one-third of a mile north of 190th Avenue in the town of Union. An unknown vehicle ran off the road and struck two road signs. They left the scene without reporting the crash.
Officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 6:15 p.m. Oct. 15 on Grove Street just west of Piety Street in Ellsworth. A 2008 Chevy Impala, driven by Jennifer Ann Nickel, 38, Ellsworth, was heading west on Grove Street when it struck a parked trailer attached to a lawn mower owned by Gary Lee Young, Ellsworth. She kept going and parked in the driveway across the street. Her vehicle had disabling damage. She was cited for OWI-third and failure to keep vehicle under control.
