Tuesday, Jan. 6
Police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 4:25 a.m. on County Road J just east of 640th Avenue in the town of Trimbelle. A 2007 Toyota Camry, driven by Juan Carlos Garcia Jinete, 34, Red Wing, Minn., was traveling northbound, lost control while negotiating a curve, crossed the center line, ran off the road and struck a tree. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Garcia Jinete reported no injuries.
Deputies were called to a one-vehicle crash at 6:57 a.m. at Highway 35 and County Road AA in the town of Maiden Rock. A 2023 Mazda CX-9, driven by Alexis Lainey Schmidt, 25, Stockholm, was heading north on Highway 35, lost control on the icy road while negotiating a curve and struck the right guardrail. She then spun and struck the left guardrail before coming to a stop. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Schmidt to a Minnesota hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Wednesday, Jan. 7
Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 2:09 a.m. at Highway 63 and County Road VV in the town of Trenton between a 2015 Subaru Outback, driven by Walter August Johanik, 55, River Falls, and a 2024 Subaru Outback, driven by Jason John Kaping, 43, Ellsworth. Johanik was heading north on Highway 63 while Kaping was traveling eastbound on VV. He failed to stop at the stop sign and struck Johanik’s vehicle, landing them both in the ditch. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Neither driver reported injuries. Kaping was cited for OWI and failure to keep vehicle under control.
Thursday, Jan. 8
Police were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 8:15 a.m. on County Road O one-third of a mile north of 710th Avenue in the town of River Falls. A 2007 Pontiac G6, driven by Brady Louis Kirchoff, 25, Ellsworth, was heading north on County Road O on a curve. He lost control, spun around, entered the west ditch backwards and spun around again. Family members picked up Kirchoff and dropped him off at work. He called the accident into dispatch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Kirchoff reported no injuries.
Friday, Jan. 9
Deputies were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 5:27 p.m. at 570th Avenue and 740th Street in the town of Trimbelle. A 2025 Ford Maverick, driven by Daniel Boyd Huppert, 77, Beldenville, was heading south on 740th Street, failed to stop at the stop sign and went into the ditch, striking trees and a cable box. The vehicle had moderate damage. Huppert reported no injuries.
Saturday, Jan. 10
Police were notified of a hit and run at 11:25 a.m. at 1090th Street and 840th Avenue in the town of Clifton. An unknown vehicle drove through the intersection, slid into the ditch and knocked over a directional sign.
Officers were called to a one-vehicle crash at 4:07 p.m. at Highway 10 and County Road QQ in the town of Oak Grove. A 2011 Chevy Avo, driven by Lukas Royce Raigosa, 18, Prescott, was pulling into the eastbound turn lane when the vehicle slid into the ditch, struck the QQ sign and knocked it over. He left the scene but returned when police called him. His vehicle had no damage. Raigosa and passenger Silas Richard Stancer, 18, Prescott, reported no injuries.
Tuesday, Jan. 13
Officers were notified of a hit and run at 9:26 a.m. that took place at 6 p.m. Jan. 12 near N2836 County Road CC one mile north of 250th Avenue in the town of Salem. The homeowner heard tires squealing; when he went outside, his mailbox showed damage. The vehicle’s tracks appeared to enter the ditch and continue northbound on County Road CC.
Thursday, Jan. 15
Police were dispatched to a vehicle vs. horse crash at 2:49 a.m. on Highway 63 just north of County Road DD in the town of Ellsworth. A 2011 Peterbilt semi, driven by Thomas John Schneider, 39, Lonsdale, Minn., was heading north on Highway 63 when it struck two horses, owned by Brooke Nicole Drewlow, Ellsworth, in the roadway. Schneider’s truck had minor damage; he reported no injuries.
Saturday, Jan. 17
Deputies were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 10:50 a.m. on Highway 63 just north of 180th Avenue in the town of Trenton. A 2001 Dodge Dakota, driven by James Alvin Pearson, 75, Ellsworth, was traveling south on Highway 63. Pearson tried to turn right, slid on the ice at the entrance of 785th Street, slid into the ditch, traveled an additional 100 feet and struck a lighted stop ahead sign. The sign crashed on top of the vehicle, which had to be towed though the damage was minor. Pearson reported no injuries.
Sunday, Jan. 18
Police were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 12:25 p.m. on Highway 35 just east of County Road VV in the town of Trenton. A 2007 Chevy Impala, driven by Madilynn Lee Yager, 20, Dassel, Minn., was heading south on Highway 35 preparing to turn right on County Road VV. She slid on the slushy road, crossed the center line and struck a guardrail. The vehicle, which had moderate damage, was towed. Yager reported no injuries.
Monday, Jan. 19
Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 3:29 p.m. at County Road O and 501st Avenue in the town of Trimbelle between a 2023 Toyota Rav4, driven by Pao Choua Vang, 50, Hager City, and a 2009 Pontiac G6, driven by Hailey Ruth Huseby, 26, New Richmond. Vang was heading north on County Road O, while Huseby was going south. Both vehicles were negotiating a curve when they collided on the driver’s side of each vehicle. The snowy road made the yellow line impossible to see. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Huseby, Vang and his four passengers, Shua Xiong, 44, Hager City and juveniles ages 13, 14 and 17 reported no injuries.
Tuesday, Jan. 20
Deputies were notified of a two-vehicle crash at 7:57 a.m. at County Road CC and Highway 29 in the town of Gilman between a 2007 Buick Lucerne, driven by Kolton James Wilman, 17, Wilson, and a 2006 Toyota Sienna, driven by Maxwell Ray Arco, 40, Woodville. Wilman was heading east on Highway 29 when he slowed down to turn southbound onto County Road CC. He slid on the ice, entered the northbound lane and struck Arco, who was stopped at a stop sign. Both vehicles had minor damage. Wilman, his passenger Mason Jordan Winger, 16, Spring Valley, and Arco reported no injuries.
Wednesday, Jan. 21
Officers responded to a one-vehicle rollover at 8:52 a.m. on Highway 63 one-quarter mile south of 329th Avenue on the town of Trenton. A 2005 GMC Envoy, driven by Julian Quechulpa Xicalhua, 33, Ellsworth, was heading south on Highway 63, lost control due to road conditions, crossed the center line, entered the eastern ditch and rolled over. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Quechulpa Xicalhua reported no injuries. He was cited for operate without valid license and operate motor vehicle without insurance.
Police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 11:15 a.m. on Highway 10 just east of 620th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. A 2016 Subaru Outback, driven by Anita Lynn Hagstrom, 62, River Falls, was traveling westbound when it hit a slippery spot, lost control, crossed the center line and struck the guardrail. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Hagstrom reported suspected minor injuries but was not transported.
Deputies were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 11:49 a.m. on Highway 10 just east of 620th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. A 2014 Ford Focus, driven by Passious Talia Thiele, 18, Ellsworth, was heading eastbound on Highway 10 nearing the area where Prescott Fire had traffic stopped due to an accident. Thiele braked but fishtailed and struck a guardrail. The vehicle had minor damage. Thiele reported no injuries.
Friday, Jan. 23
Officers were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 6:52 p.m. on Highway 29 one-third of a mile east of Highway 63 in the town of Gilman. A 2016 Ford MME, driven by Kody Michael Bluel, 21, River Falls, was heading east on Highway 29, lost control and ran off the road into the ditch. The vehicle had moderate damage. Bluel and passenger Owen James Sims, 18, Knapp, reported no injuries.
Saturday, Jan. 24
Police were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 5:32 a.m. on 570th Street at county roads DD and V in the town of Hartland. A 2005 Honda Accord, driven by Layney Mae Blomberg, 16, Ellsworth, was traveling south on County Road DD. She attempted to slow for a stop sign, hit an ice patch, slid through the intersection and entered the east ditch on 570th, where she struck a tree. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Blomberg reported no injuries.
Thursday, Jan. 29
Deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 12:03 p.m. at 650th Street and County Road N in the town of Martell between a 2019 GMC Sierra, driven by James Robert Harnden, 54, Beldenville, and a 2006 Ford Ranger, driven by Charles John Casey, 74, Beldenville. Harnden was traveling south on 650th Street approaching County Road N. He stopped at the stop sign and saw Casey, who was traveling north on 650th Street, stop at his stop sign. He said Cased stopped first, giving him the right of way. Harnden was looking into the sun and thought Casey had waved for him to go first. He started crossing the county road but didn’t see that Casey was turning to head westbound on N, and struck his passenger side. Both vehicles had moderate damage. No injuries were reported.
Friday, Jan. 30
Officers were dispatched at 7:07 a.m. to a one-vehicle crash at Highway 10 and 730th Street in Ellsworth. A 2024 Ford MME, driven by Daniel Oleg Newman, 23, McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., was heading west on Highway 10, hit an icy spot, lost control, spun out, over corrected, crossed the center line, entered the ditch and struck a street sign. The vehicle crossed 730th Street and entered the ditch on the other side. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Newman and passenger Dawson Jeffrey Peters, 22, Ellsworth, reported no injuries.
Sunday, Feb. 1
Police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 11:46 a.m. on Highway 35 4/10 of a mile north of 1005th Street in the town of Diamond Bluff. A 2015 Honda CRV, driven by Athen Shannon James Arzt, 21, Melrose, was heading south downhill on snowy roads. He lost control, crossed the center line, struck the guardrail end and landed in the north ditch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Arzt reported no injuries.
Officers were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 12:36 p.m. at County Road BB and Highway 72 in the town of El Paso. A 2020 Honda CRV, driven by Brennen Christopher Coffman, 24, Ellsworth, was heading south on BB downhill. He was unable to stop at the stop sign at Highway 72, crossed the highway and struck the guardrail. The vehicle had moderate damage. Coffman reported suspected minor injuries but was not transported. Passengers Sophia Michal Coffman, 21, Ellsworth, and a 5-month-old baby had no injuries.
Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 4:44 p.m. on Highway 35 one-third of a mile north of 468th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove between a 2009 Dodge Avenger, driven by Erica Louise Kieffer, 24, Prescott, and a 2021 Subaru Ascent, driven by Michael Peter Masyga, 74, Prescott. Kieffer was heading south on Highway 35; while going uphill, she lost control, crossed the center line and struck the northbound lane guardrail face. She returned to the roadway and collided with Masyga’s vehicle. The impact propelled Kieffer into the northbound guardrail while Masyga entered the southbound lane ditch. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Kieffer to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with suspected serious injuries and her passenger Braydyn Jeffrey Fick, 25, Red Wing, Minn., to Regions with suspected minor injuries. EMS transported Masyga to Regions with possible injuries and his passenger Rena Marlene Waalkens Masyga, 73, Prescott, to Regina in Hastings, Minn. with suspected serious injuries. Kieffer was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control.
Deputies responded at 5:41 p.m. to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 63 just north of 830th Street in the town of Trenton. A 2022 Dodge Charger, driven by Nicholas Robert Niedfeldt, 35, Hager City, was traveling north on Highway 63, lost traction on the ice, entered the east ditch and stayed put. Melstrom’s towed the vehicle, which had disabling damage, out of the ditch. Niedfeldt reported no injuries.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 7:53 p.m. on Highway 35 just west of 125th Avenue in the town of Isabelle. A 2002 Ford F250, driven by Jacob Donald Hanson, 31, Beldenville, was traveling northbound on Highway 35, while a 2005 Ford 500, driven by Nathan Richard Holdorf, 24, Winona, Minn., was heading southbound. Holdorf lost control on the ice, crossed the center line and struck Hanson, who then struck the guardrail face. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Hanson and his passenger Cody Richard Raebel, 30, Ellsworth, reported no injuries. EMS transported Holdorf to a Minnesota hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Police were called at 10:33 p.m. to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 65 one-half mile north of 820th Street in the town of River Falls. A 2015 Mazda 323, driven by Summer Sunshine Jones, 19, Star Prairie, was heading south downhill when it lost control on the icy road. She collided with the west side guardrail and came to stop in the traffic lane facing north. Jerry’s Towing removed the vehicle, which had moderate damage, away from the guardrail; it was drivable. Jones reported no injuries.
Monday, Feb. 2
Deputies were called to a one-vehicle rollover at 2:43 a.m. on Highway 35 one-quarter mile south of 125th Avenue in the town of Isabelle. A 2002 Ford Ranger, driven by Faith Maria Schutz, 25, Bay City, was traveling north on Highway 35, lost control on the icy road, and over corrected. The vehicle began to spin, entered the ditch and rolled onto its driver’s side. Police extracted Schutz from the vehicle; she reported no injuries. The vehicle had moderate damage and was towed to Dick’s Auto Body.
