Police were called at 8:50 p.m. March 4 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 10 just west of 560th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. A 2015 Buick Encore, driven by Devin Jerome Ford, 30, Ellsworth, was heading west on Highway 10, which was covered in snow. Ford slid off the roadway to the right, into an embankment. The vehicles airbags deployed, causing pain to the driver’s right arm. The vehicle was towed but had no damage. Ford reported possible injuries but was not transported.
Deputies were dispatched at 9 p.m. March 4 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just west of 1180th Street in the town of Oak Grove. A 2019 Chevy Traverse, driven by Abigail Rose Mestad, 29, Fountain City, was traveling north on Highway 35 when it lost control on the slushy road, crossed the center line and slid into the ditch, hitting a culvert. Mestad was able to get the vehicle out of the ditch up onto the highway. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
Officers were dispatched at 9:30 p.m. March 4 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road F just south of 820th Avenue in the town of Clifton. A 2014 Buick Verano, driven by Lori Ann O’Loughlin, 60, New Richmond, was traveling south on County Road F when a northbound vehicle entered the southbound traffic lane, causing O’Loughlin to swerve into the northbound lane, then into the ditch due to slippery conditions. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. O’Loughlin reported no injuries.
Deputies responded at 9:31 a.m. March 5 to a one-vehicle crash at Highway 72 and County Road BB in the town of El Paso. A 2010 Chevy Silverado, driven by Trisha Renee Sukowatey, 42, Elmwood, was heading south on County Road BB, slid through the intersection and struck a guard rail. The vehicle had minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Police responded at 9:46 a.m. March 5 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 29 just east of 1073rd Street in the town of Clifton between a 2006 Chevy Impala, driven by Benjamin Joel Reis, 36, River Falls, and a 2017 Ram 1500, driven by Thadis C. Hague, 60, River Falls. Both vehicles were heading west on Highway 29 when Reis lost control on the snowy road and began to spin. Hague then struck Reis’s Chevy. The Impala was towed due to disabling damage while the Ram had minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Deputies responded at 11:15 a.m. March 5 to a two-vehicle crash on County Road P one-quarter mile south of 330th Avenue in the town of Spring Lake between a 2021 Ford F59, driven by Nicholas Michael Hayden, 27, Mondovi, and a 2013 Ford F150 Elmwood police squad, driven by Darren Dean Ekholm, 47, Elmwood. Hayden was traveling northbound when it slid and became stuck due to snow and ice. Ekholm attempted to stop near Hayden’s vehicle and sild backwards into it. The F59 had no damage while the Ford 150 had minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Officers were dispatched at 1:54 p.m. March 9 to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 10 and County Road QQ in the town of Oak Grove between a 2020 Ford F150, driven by Robert William Gaertner, 70, Bloomington, Minn., and a 1998 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Madison Danielle Mahmoud, 18, River Falls. Gaertner was traveling westbound on Highway 10, while Mahmoud was traveling south on County Road QQ, failed to stop at the stop sign and crashed into Gaertner. Mahmoud said her brakes failed and she went through the intersection. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Gaertner to Regina Hospital in Hastings with suspected minor injuries. His passenger Cheraine Lea Gaertner, 76, Bloomington, Minn., reported no injuries. Mahmoud and her passengers, Jordan M. Wheeler, 16, River Falls, and Antonio Ray Lee Barnett, 18, River Falls, reported no injuries. Mahmoud was cited fail/stop at stop sign.
Deputies were called at 4:36 a.m. March 10 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just east of 570th Street in the town of Isabelle. A 2015 GMC Terrain, driven by Tylor John Fox, 28, Plum City, was heading north on Highway 35 when it lost control, struck the north guard rail face and continued northbound. The vehicle then crossed the center line and struck the guard rail end at 570th Street, plus a street sign. The vehicle continued about 200 feet before it stopped along the side of the road. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Fox and passengers Jenna Marie Fox, 28, Plum City, and Vickie Ann Fox, 57, Plum City, reported no injuries.
Police responded at 8:58 a.m. March 10 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 65 just east of County Road J in the town of Trimbelle between a 2023 GMC Sierra, driven by Jared Gregory Beltrand, 46, Zimmerman, Minn., and a 2012 Mini Cooper, driven by Vivian Jade Buri, 18, Ellsworth. Both vehicles were heading northbound on Highway 65. Beltrand slowed to allow the vehicle in front of him to turn and Buri rear-ended him, pushing him into the ditch. The GMC had functional damage, while the Mini Cooper was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
Deputies were called at 4:13 p.m. March 11 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 10 just west of 1170th Street in the town of Oak Grove between a 2016 Chevy Malibu, driven by Mattie Sue Thurmes, 25, Bay City, and a 2006 Pontiac Vibe, driven by Karen Marie Benner, 58, Prescott. Benner was stopped in traffic near the intersection and Thurmes was traveling eastbound, approaching Benner’s vehicle. Thurmes was distracted and didn’t see Benner’s vehicle. She braked aggressively and performed an evasive maneuver, but ended up hitting Benner’s vehicle and landed in the south ditch. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported. Thurmes was cited for vehicle operator fail/wear seat belt.
Officers responded at 6:18 p.m. March 11 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 10 just west of 490th Street in the town of Hartland. A 2022 GMC Sierra, driven by Darin Carl York, 41, Eau Galle, was traveling east on Highway 10 when York saw a deer in the traffic lane. He swerved to avoid it, crossed the center line and struck the face of a guard rail. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. York reported no injuries.
Deputies responded at 8:19 a.m. March 12 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 72 one-half mile west of 190th Street in the town of Rock Elm. A 2005 Toyota Sequoia, driven by Joseph Anton Vanderbosch, 39, Esko, Minn., was traveling eastbound when it lost its right front tire. The vehicle crossed the center line, entered the northern ditch and continued through the ditch until it did a 180 and faced westbound. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
Officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 3:43 p.m. March 12 that had occurred at 3 p.m. on private property at N4605 1068th St. in the town of Oak Grove. A 2015 Ford F150, driven by Victor Sherbanenko, 66, Mendota Heights, Minn., was driving on Highway 35 and became lost. He entered a private driveway and caused damage to someone’s yard. The vehicle had minor damage but was towed from the scene. Sherbanenko reported no injuries. He was cited for operate without valid license.
Police were called at 7:55 p.m. March 21 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 35 one-third mile west of 125th Avenue in the town of Isabelle. A 2018 Chevy Silverado, driven by Frederick Stanley Muenkel, 74, Pepin, was traveling south on Highway 35 when it struck a deer. Muenkel pulled off on the side of the road; he put the truck in neutral so he could push it further, but he couldn’t get back in before the vehicle slid into the south ditch, where it struck a tree. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Muenkel and passenger Kathleen Marie Muenkel, 66, Pepin, reported no injuries.
Deputies were dispatched at 12:10 a.m. March 23 to a one-vehicle rollover crash on County Road EE one-half mile south of 210th Avenue in the town of Hartland. A 1997 Chevy Geo Prism, driven by Hunter Daniel Kern, 26, Bay City, was traveling northbound on County Road EE when he reached for something, veered in his traffic lane, overcorrected, lost control and entered the western ditch. The vehicle rolled several times. Kern left the scene prior to the police arriving. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Kern reported no injuries; he was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident, inattentive driving and failure to keep vehicle under control.
Police responded to a motorcycle crash at 6:10 p.m. March 21 on County Road C near 690th Street in the town of Hartland. A Honda motorcycle, driven by John Neihart, 65, Bay City, was traveling west on 690th Steet when it lot control and entered the ditch. Ellsworth Ambulance Service transported Neihart to Mayo Hospital in Red Wing with undisclosed injuries. Ellsworth Fire also assisted at the scene.
