Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 2:28 p.m. May 6 on Highway 63 and 150th Street in the town of Trenton between a 2013 Cadillac Escalade, driven by Dale Eugene Edgar, 78, Kasson, Minn., and a 2022 Honda Civic, driven by Brandon Michael Kirby, 32, Prescott. Edgar was heading north while Kirby was traveling south, attempting to turn east onto 150th Avenue. He failed to yield the right of way and struck Edgar’s vehicle. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Edgar to a Minnesota hospital with possible injuries. EMS also transported Julie Kay Edgar, 77, Kasson, Minn., to a Minnesota hospital with suspected minor injuries. Kirby reported no injuries. He was cited for fail/yield while making left turn.
Deputies were dispatched at 8:52 p.m. May 8 to a two-vehicle crash in the parking lot of C3 Church in the town of Trimbelle between a 2002 Dodge V15, driven by Morgan Lance Gee, 16, River Falls, and a legally parked 2016 Mazda MZ6, owned by Rory Daniel Wilson, River Falls. Gee was pulling out of a parking spot, took a sharp right turn and struck the front driver’s side headlight on Wilson’s vehicle, which was unoccupied. Both vehicles had minor damage. Gee and passengers Henry Ray Penn, 16, Ellsworth; Sarah Jo Fisher, 17, Wilson; Lucy Sophia Lovestrand, 18, Baldwin; and Lavina Victoria Kool, 18, Baldwin, reported no injuries.
Officers were called at 4:27 p.m. May 12 to a vehicle fire on County Road BB just north of 870th Avenue in the town of Gilman. A 2000 Dodge Caravan, driven by Jeanelle Marie Mandelkow, 69, Spring Valley, was heading southbound when the van started smoking. She pulled off to the side of the road and the vehicle started on fire. It was completely burnt before firefighters arrived and had to be towed. Mandelkow reported no injuries.
Police responded at 6:20 p.m. May 12 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road CC just north of 250th Avenue in the town of Salem. A Deer 6430 farm tractor, driven by Gordon Thomas Luebker, 65, Maiden Rock, was traveling northbound when it lost control on the gravel, crossed the center line and went into the ditch, where it overturned. The vehicle had functional damage. Luebker reported no injuries.
Deputies were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 9 a.m. May 16 at Highway 10 and 490th Street in the town of Salem. A 2020 Subaru Impreza, driven by Eunice Anne Black, 78, St. Paul, was traveling eastbound when it struck a large tree that had fallen into the road. Black didn’t see the tree in time to avoid a collision. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
Police responded at 11:16 p.m. May 16 to a one-vehicle crash on 710th Avenue one-half mile west of 820th Street in the town of River Falls. A 2011 Dodge 1500, driven by Xander Kage Halvorson, 16, River Falls, was traveling east on 710th Avenue when he came upon a fallen tree in the road. He performed an evasive breaking maneuver, steering toward a gap in the tree branches but collided with the tree. He called 911 and a friend’s parent took him to the hospital with suspected minor injuries. The truck was towed due to disabling damage.
Officers were called at 11:21 a.m. May 21 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just north of 1259th Street in the town of Oak Grove between a 2013 Ford F150, driven by David Gene Heinn, 75, Maplewood, Minn., and a 1993 Chevy S10, driven by Jessica Marie Peterson-Ward, 36m Prescott. Heinn was heading north and Peterson-Ward was delivering mail, pulled off to the side of the road. She then made a left-hand turn towards a driveway, went into the opposite traffic lane and caused a head-on crash with Heinn. Heinn’s vehicle was towed with functional damage, while Peterson-Ward’s was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported. Peterson-Ward was cited for operate motor vehicle without insurance and fail/yield while making left turn.
Police responded at 6:29 p.m. May 22 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just west of County Road EE in Bay City between a 2005 Mazda MZ6, driven by Mya Marie Petersen, 17, Ellsworth, and a 2014 Chevy Silverado, driven by Stephen James Savoie, 68, Ellsworth. Petersen was traveling northbound on Highway 35 and Savoie was heading southbound. Savoie was making a left-hand turn into a parking lot. Petersen was unable to stop in time and struck Savoie’s vehicle. Petersen’s vehicle had functional damage, while Savoie’s showed minor damage. No injuries were reported.
Deputies were dispatched at 9:22 p.m. Thursday, May 22 to a single-vehicle crash with injury on County Road C near 490th Avenue in the town of Ellsworth. A 1996 Ford Ranger, driven by Autumn Hendon, 21, Ellsworth, was traveling southbound on County Road C when it lost control and entered the ditch, driving into a field. Ellsworth Ambulance Service transported Hendon to River Falls Area Hospital with suspected serious injuries. She was cited for OWI-second, ignition interlock device tampering/failure to install/violate court order, possess open intoxicants in motor vehicle – driver and failure to keep vehicle under control. The vehicle had minor damage.
Police were called at 12:06 a.m. May 25 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 63 just south of 490th Street in the town of Martell. A 2007 Chevy Blazer, driven by Jorge Mendoza Gutierrez, 24, Elmwood, was heading west on Highway 29 when it entered the south ditch, struck a road sign and entered the ditch deeper, causing it to turn sideways. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Mendoza Gutierrez reported no injuries. He was cited for OWI and operate without valid license.
Deputies were notified of a hit and run crash at 8:32 a.m. May 25 that occurred at 1:15 a.m. at Highway 72 and County Road G in the town of Spring Lake. A 2019 Honda Civic, driven by Jerry Thomas Dent, 32, Menomonie, was traveling westbound on County Road G, failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 72 and entered the east ditch. The vehicle left the road and went airborne, showing a high rate of speed. The vehicle’s front end hit the ditch, where it continued on into a barbed wire fence. The vehicle smelled of alcohol and witnesses reported hearing the tires squeal, a male yelling and the car going into the ditch at 1:15 a.m. Dent left the scene; he later admitted to walking until he could use a random person’s phone and called for a ride several hours later. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Dent reported no injuries; he was cited for hit and run – property adjacent to highway, failure of operator to notify police of accident, failure to keep vehicle under control, and fail/stop at stop sign. Alcohol use is suspected, though no tests were performed.
Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 1:58 p.m. May 25 in the parking lot of N1817 785th St. in the town of Trenton between a 1999 Dodge R2500, driven by Noah Christopher Knudsen, 49, Lake City, Minn., and a 2002 Ford F250, driven by Jacob Donald Hanson, 30, Beldenville. Hanson parked and exited the vehicle. Knudsen, who was maneuvering through the parking lot, was struck by Hanson’s vehicle, which rolled backwards while unoccupied. Both vehicles had minor damage. Knudsen and his two passengers, ages 14 and 12, reported no injuries.
Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 7:53 a.m. May 27 on County Road D four-tenths of a mile north of 330th Avenue in the town of Hartland between a 2007 International 9200I semi-truck, driven by Steven Gregory Coulson, 74, Ellsworth, and a 1982 Versatile farm tractor, driven by Scott Joseph Brunner, 57, Arkansaw. Both vehicles were traveling south and Coulson began to pass Brunner in a passing zone. Brunner attempted to turn left into a driveway, didn’t have turn signals and the two collided. The semi was towed due to disabling damage. Coulson had suspected minor injuries but wasn’t transported. The Versatile had minor damage and Brunner reported no injuries.
Officers were notified of a one-vehicle crash at 7:16 a.m. May 29 that had occurred at 1:45 a.m. on 810th Avenue four-tenths of a mile east of 747th Street in the town of Martell. A 2019 Nissan Leaf, driven by Robin Marie Boles, 52, River Falls, was traveling westbound on 810th Avenue, left the road and entered the ditch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported. Boles was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident, operating left of center and failure to keep vehicle under control. Alcohol use was suspected, though no tests were given.
Deputies were dispatched at 6:06 p.m. May 29 to a two-vehicle crash at the Brown Field Complex (N1626 County Road VV) in the town of Trenton between a 2019 Ford Ranger, driven by Dennis Micheal Truttman, 79, Red Wing, Minn., and a legally parked 2022 Buick Envision, owned by Nicolas Joseph Kemmerer, Hager City. Truttman shifted into reverse to back into a parking spot, became distracted by watching baseball players in the nearby field and backed into Kemmerer’s front end. Both vehicles had minor damage.
