Pierce County accidents: Published March 5, 2025

Police were dispatched at 1:35 p.m. Jan. 15 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just east of 113th Avenue in the town of Maiden Rock. A 2013 Ford Edge, driven by Collin Charles Silker, 26, Wabasha, Minn., was heading northbound on Highway 35 in a work zone where trees were being trimmed on the road’s south side. A tree branch struck his windshield, causing it to crack. The vehicle was towed. No injuries were reported.

A 2014 Ford Edge, driven by Laura Taggart Arneson, 33, Ellsworth, struck a deer at 7 a.m. Jan. 16 on Highway 63, four-tenths of a mile north of 850th Avenue in the town of Trenton. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash at 7:25 a.m. Jan. 16 on Highway 10 just west of 609th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. A 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Nathen Richard-William Nelson, 36, Ellsworth, was traveling westbound on Highway 10, attempted to negotiate a right-hand curve, lost control due to road conditions, went into the ditch and struck a large rock. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded at 7:25 a.m. Jan. 16 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 10 just west of 609th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. A 2009 Mercury Milan, driven by Nicole Lindsay Pizza, 48, Ellsworth, was traveling westbound, failed to maintain control and entered the right ditch, where she struck a rock. The vehicle had minor damage. Pizza reported no injuries.

Police were called at 7:45 a.m. Jan. 16 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 10 one-third mile east of 800th Street in the town of Trimbelle. A 2010 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Kylie Lynn Knutson, 19, Ellsworth, was heading westbound on Highway 10, slid on the road, and hit a guardrail face. She was able to pull into the nearest driveway. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash at 8:34 a.m. Jan. 16 on Highway 63 one-quarter mile west of Highway 35 in the town of Trenton. A 2002 Chevy Silverado, driven by Christopher Alan Gustafson, 32, Bay City, was heading southbound on Highway 63, lost control on the icy road/bridge and collided with a guardrail face. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Police were dispatched at 3:22 p.m. Jan. 17 to a two-vehicle crash at Third Street and McKay Avenue in Spring Valley between a legally parked 2020 Chevy Equinox, owned by Michael Richard Wentlandt, Spring Valley, and a 1994 Ford L Series straight truck, driven by Thomas M. Sukowatey. Sukowatey attempted to park behind the Chevy and struck it from the rear. The Chevy had minor damage while the Ford had no damage. No injuries were reported.

Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 6:55 p.m. Jan. 17 at Highway 63 and 180th Avenue in the town of Trenton between a 2013 Subaru Impreza, driven by Brady William Mitchell, 18, Hager City, and a 2022 Nissan Sentra, driven by Travis Lee Johnson, 49, Hager City. Johnson was traveling northbound on Highway 63 and stopped in the lane, attempting to turn left onto 180th Avenue. Mitchell, who was behind Johnson, was distracted, failed to see Johnson, attempted an evasive maneuver and rear-ended him. The Subaru had functional damage while the Nissan had minor damage. No injuries were reported.

Police were called at 2:50 p.m. Jan. 21 to a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 1:10 p.m. on 440th Avenue, six-tenths of a mile west of County Road K in the town of Trimbelle. A 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by Tammy Marie Oestreich, 56, River Falls, was heading southbound on 440th Avenue. When she came to the end of the dead-end road, she put the vehicle in reverse and backed into the ditch, striking two mailboxes. Witnesses took a photo of the vehicle as it was trying to get out of the ditch. The vehicle had no damage and left the scene. Oestreich and passenger Mary Ellen Oestreich, 77, River Falls, reported no injuries. Tammy Oestreich was cited for operate motor vehicle without insurance and failure to keep vehicle under control.

Officers responded at 7:26 a.m. Jan. 24 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 10 one-quarter of a mile east of 1110th Street in the town of Oak Grove between an unknown vehicle and 2024 GMC Sierra, driven by Lisa Marie Noworatzky, 49, Prescott. Noworatzky was heading eastbound on Highway 10 when a smaller, older model truck heading the opposite direction swerved into her lane and sideswiped her driver’s side, causing paint chips and minor damage. No injuries were reported.

Deputies were dispatched at 10:04 p.m. Jan. 24 to a one-vehicle rollover on County Road CC just south of Highway 29 in the town of Gilman. A 2007 BMW 328, driven by Joshua Nathaniel Ihle, 44, Spring Valley, was heading north on County Road CC, ran off the road to the right and up a hill. He continued driving on the hill until the vehicle rolled and landed on its roof. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Ihle reported no injuries; he was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and OWI.

Officers responded at 8:56 a.m. Jan. 28 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 10 just west of 190th Street in the town of Union. A 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by Calvin Edward Stockwell, 81, Plum City, was heading westbound when it crossed the center line, entered the eastbound ditch and struck several trees. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Stockwell reported suspected minor injuries but wasn’t transported.

Police were called at 9:33 a.m. Jan. 25 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 35 just east of 570th Street in the town of Isabelle. A 2007 Toyota Corolla, driven by Gwen Ann Hale, 62, Red Wing, Minn., was heading southbound on Highway 35 when it lost control negotiating an uphill curve. The vehicle swerved back and forth before hitting a guardrail face, damaging it. The vehicle had functional damage. No injuries were reported.

Officers responded at 6:42 a.m. Jan. 28 to a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 35 one-third mile south of County Road E in the town of Oak Grove. A 2007 Ford Escape, driven by Jason Dale Kinneman, 54, Hager City, was traveling northbound on Highway 35 when a deer ran into the road. Kinneman swerved to miss it, went into the west ditch and overturned onto its passenger side. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Kinneman reported no injuries.

Deputies were dispatched at 3:41 p.m. Jan. 30 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 29 one-third mile west of 770th Street in the town of River Falls. A 2018 Kia Sportage, driven by Kiana Mae Delong, 32, Spring Valley, was heading eastbound on Highway 29 when she swerved to miss a deer, striking a guardrail instead. Multiple other people called the crash in; Delong said she didn’t want to call the crash in if she didn’t have to. The vehicle was found parked about a mile away with flat tires and towed due to disabling damage. Delong reported no injuries; she was cited for OWI and failure of operator to notify police of accident.

Officers responded at 4:33 p.m. Jan. 31 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road M just west of Glendale Drive in the town of Clifton. A 2005 Nissan Maxima, driven by Riley William Bonikowske, 17, River Falls, was traveling westbound on County Road M uphill while negotiating a right-hand curve when it lost control, crossed the center line and struck a guardrail face. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Bonikowske reported no injuries.

Police were called at 4:03 p.m. Feb. 1 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road O just south of Highway 65 in the town of River Falls. A 2006 Pontiac Vibe, driven by Carie Marie Statz, 56, River Falls, was traveling northbound on O when it was struck by a falling tree. The vehicle had functional damage. Statz and passenger Even Joseph Kaeder, 19, River Falls, reported no injuries.

Officers were dispatched at 7:55 a.m. Feb. 3 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 29 just east of Beltline Road in the town of Gilman. A 2005 Ford Ranger, driven by Rebecca Rae Buehler-Yount, 33, Menomonie, was heading westbound, hit a spot of ice and slush, lost control, crossed the center line and entered the southern ditch. The vehicle then struck a utility pole. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Buehler-Yount and her passenger Emily Anne Kiefer, 42, Menomonie, reported no injuries.

Deputies responded at 11:09 p.m. Feb. 5 to a one-vehicle crash on 210th Avenue just south of 490th Street in the town of Hartland. A 2013 Chevy Malibu, driven by Abbie Jo Flynn, 40, Maiden Rock, was heading eastbound on 210th Avenue approaching a turn. She failed to navigate the turn and entered the south ditch, striking several trees on the way down. She said she thought she was on the phone with her fiancé at the time. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Flynn to Advent Health in Durand with suspected minor injuries. She was arrested for OWI-third and failure to keep vehicle under control.

Police were called at 8:09 a.m. Feb. 6 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 72 just west of 170th Street in the town of Rock Elm. A 2016 GMC Terrain, driven by Donovan Ty Fretty, 16, Elmwood, was traveling eastbound on Highway 72, lost control due to speed and snowy roads, crossed the center line and entered the north ditch. The vehicle continued in the ditch, striking a stop sign on 170th, before reentering the roadway. The vehicle had functional damage. No injuries were reported.

Officers were dispatched at 11:06 a.m. Feb. 6 to a two-vehicle crash on County CC just south of 730th Avenue in the town of Gilman between a 2017 Honda Accord, driven by Felicia Alexis Biagi, 34, Durand, and a 2016 Chevy Silverado, driven by James Michael Claflin, 56, Hager City. Biagi was traveling southbound on County Road CC, while Claflin was heading northbound. Biagi crossed the center line and hit Claflin head on, coming to rest about 30 feet into the ditch. A helicopter transported Biagi to Western Wisconsin Health, where she died from her injuries at 8:25 p.m. EMS transported Claflin to Western Wisconsin Health with suspected minor injuries. EMS transported passenger Diane Mary Claflin, 55, Ellsworth, to Western Wisconsin Health with suspected serious injuries. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Biagi was not wearing a seat belt.

Police responded at 4:21 p.m. Feb. 6 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road G, one-half mile west of 710th Avenue in the town of Spring Lake. A 2013 Chevy Silverado, driven by Jared Andrew Hager, 18, Elmwood, was heading east on G when he lost control, crossed the center line and entered the north ditch, where he spun around and struck several large rocks. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Officers were dispatched at 7:09 a.m. Feb. 7 to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 one-third mile east of County Road EE in Bay City between a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Chad Mitchel Gilbertson, 53, Maiden Rock, and a 2003 Chevy Impala, driven by Brady Jay Blodgett, 22, Maiden Rock. Gilbertson was heading northbound on Highway 35 with Blodgett behind him. When Gilbertson began slowing for a school bus stopping to pick up kids, Blodgett began braking, then swerved to the right where he collided with Gilbertson’s rear passenger side. Blodgett said he had bad brakes on the vehicle. Both vehicles had minor damage. Neither driver nor passenger Teresa Ann Gilbertson, 51, Maiden Rock, reported injuries.

Police responded at 9:51 a.m. Feb. 8 to a one-vehicle rollover on Highway 35, one-third of a mile west of County Road O in the town of Diamond Bluff. A 2004 Honda CR-V, driven by Timothy Allen Quade, 17, Hager City, was heading northbound on Highway 35, lot control, entered the east ditch and rolled five or six times. The vehicle came to a rest and was fully engulfed in flames. Quade was taken by personal vehicle to the hospital. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

Deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 1:36 p.m. Feb. 8 on Highway 10 just east of 870th Street in the town of Trimbelle between a 2018 Subaru Impreza, driven by Shing Thao, 40, Ellsworth, and a 2015 GMC Yukon, driven by Madison Marie Rinde, 31, River Falls. Both vehicles were heading west on Highway 10, with Thao behind Rinde, who was following a snowplow. Rinde slammed on her brakes and Thao went into the other lane, but the vehicles collided. Visibility was poor due to snow kicked up by the plow. Both vehicles had minor damage. Thao had two juvenile passengers with him, aged 4 and 9. Rinde had one passenger, Millie Evelyn Rinde, 31, River Falls. No one reported any injuries.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 11:17 a.m. Feb. 10 on County Road J one-half mile north of County Road N in the town of Martell between a 2020 Freightliner M2 straight truck, driven by Roger Lorin Young, 61, Hager City, and a 2022 Ford Bronco, driven by Elisa Savina Gualan Andrade, 34, Ellsworth. Young, facing northbound, stopped in the roadway to attempt to back into a driveway to pick up trash. Gualan Andrade was heading northbound behind him, attempted to brake, slid on the snowy road and struck the truck’s front passenger side before going into the ditch. The Freightliner had functional damage while the Ford was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Police were dispatched at 5:19 p.m. Feb. 11 to a two-vehicle crash at highways 10 and 63 in the town of Trimbelle between a 2004 Dodge Dakota, driven by Peyton Dominic Vieau, 19, River Falls, and a 2012 Ford Focus, driven by Lucas Alric Mallon, 24, Ellsworth. Vieau, facing northbound on Highway 63, was preparing to make a left-hand turn and head west on Highway 10. Mallon was heading eastbound on Highway 10. Vieau thought Mallon had turned and began merging into traffic, colliding with Mallon’s passenger side. No injuries were reported. Vieu’s Dodge had functional damage and had to be towed; Mallon’s vehicle had minor damage.

Deputies were called to a one-vehicle crash at 1:47 a.m. Feb. 12 on Highway 63 just north of County Road Y in the town of Martell. A 2013 Chevy Traverse, driven by Andrew Scott Thompson, 42, St. Paul, was heading north on Highway 63, failed to negotiate a sharp right-hand curve, continued straight and went airborne for about 106 feet before landing and striking a tree. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. A helicopter transported Thompson to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with suspected serious injuries.

Police responded at 5:38 p.m. Feb. 12 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 65 just west of County Road J in the town of Ellsworth. A 2003 Buick LeSabre, driven by Jessica Joy Weberg, 47, Ellsworth, was heading north on Highway 65 when it hit a patch of ice while attempting to navigate a left-hand curve. The vehicle went into the east ditch, drove over a culvert and stopped. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Weberg reported no injuries. She was cited for operate motor vehicle without insurance.

Officers were dispatched at 6:12 p.m. Feb. 12 to a one-vehicle crash at on Pierce/St. Croix Road just west of County Road BB in the town of Eau Galle. A 2008 Chevy Colorado, driven by Chayce Christopher Fern-Denzer, 17, Spring Valley, was heading westbound. While trying to accelerate, the vehicle slid, entered the north ditch and struck a power pole. The owner was able to remove the vehicle from the ditch. It had disabling damage. Fern-Denzer reported no injuries.

Police were dispatched at 10:14 p.m. Feb. 12 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 35, seven-tenths of a mile north of 468th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. A 2019 Dodge Charger, driven by Cody Michael Moore, 25, Hudson, was traveling southbound, lost control, overcorrected and struck a guardrail. The vehicle spun around and landed in the ditch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 8:50 a.m. Feb. 13 on Highway 63 just south of 150th Street in the town of Trenton. A 2007 Chevy Silverado, driven by Michael John Deusterman, 70, Red Wing, Minn., was operating northbound on Highway 63, hit a patch of ice which caused the back end to swing out, crossed the center line, overcorrected and entered the eastern ditch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Deusterman and passenger Rosemary Alice Deusterman, 71, Red Wing, Minn., reported no injuries.

Deputies responded at 11:10 a.m. Feb. 13 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road B just west of 770th Avenue in the town of Spring Lake. A 2017 Chevy Cruze, driven by Heather Marie Henson, 38, Baldwin, was heading eastbound on County Road B. While coming down a hill and negotiating a left-hand curve, Henson lost control while braking and struck two traffic signposts. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Police were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 1:48 p.m. Feb. 14 on County Road CC just north of County Road J in the town of Maiden Rock. An unknown vehicle was traveling westbound, attempted to make a right-hand turn onto County Road CC, went through the intersection and struck a power pole and transformer. The driver and vehicle fled the scene.

Officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at 9:49 a.m. Feb. 15 at Main Street and Hill Road in Plum City between a 2012 Chevy Impala, driven by Margaret Ann Gilles, 71, Plum City, and a 2000 Chevy Silverado, driven by Roy F. Inabnit, 74, Plum City. Gilles had become stuck in a snowbank in the roadway after backing out of her garage. Her vehicle became unstuck and slid into the path of Inabnit, who struck her passenger side. Inabnit admitted his brakes weren’t great. Gilles’ vehicle had minor damage while Inabnit’s truck had none. No injuries were reported.

Deputies responded at 12:58 a.m. Feb. 16 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 65, 1,000 feet west of 770th Avenue in the town of River Falls. A 2003 Volkswagen Golf, driven by Bobby John Shemon, 20, Amery, was driving northbound on Highway 65 when the driver fell asleep and collided with a guardrail end. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Shemon reported no injuries.

At 6:15 p.m. Feb. 16, a 2006 Pontiac Torrent, driven by Paul Herman Moss, 64, Elmwood, struck a deer on Highway 10 one-half mile west of 620th Avenue in the town of Oak Grove. The vehicle had minor damage. Moss reported no injuries.

Officers responded at 8:07 p.m. Feb. 17 to a one-vehicle crash on 410th Avenue just east of 730th Street in the town of Ellsworth. A 2013 Ford F150, driven by Jeremiah Gerald Johnson, 17, Bay City, was traveling westbound on 410th Avenue, lost control on a patch of ice, left the road and went into the north ditch, where it struck multiple trees. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Johnson to a Minnesota hospital with suspected minor injuries. EMS transported passenger Carter Carrick Lampman, 14, Hager City, to River Falls Area Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Passenger Parker Haden Lampman, 15, Hager City, reported no injuries. Carter Lampman was not wearing a seat belt.

Police were dispatched at 2:24 a.m. Feb. 19 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 29 about one-half mile west of County Road I in the town of Gilman. A 2015 Chevy Sonic, driven by Cecelia Beatriz Mendoza, 30, Menomonie, was traveling eastbound on Highway 29, swerved to miss a deer and entered the south ditch. The vehicle traveled about 100 feet before coming to rest against a fence. The vehicle, which had functional damage, was towed. No injuries were reported; Mendoza was cited for operate without valid license and operate motor vehicle without insurance.

Deputies were notified at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 19 of a crash that occurred at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 17on 450th Street, three-quarters of a mile south of 730th Avenue in the town of Gilman. A 2009 Chevy Silverado, driven by Jacob Donald Hanson, 30, Beldenville, was operating southbound too quickly. Hanson missed a corner, entered the south ditch and struck a tree. He left the scene and a citizen called the crash in the next day. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Hanson reported no injuries; he was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident.

Police responded to a one-vehicle crash at 6:44 a.m. Feb. 20 on County Road F, two-thirds of a mile south of County Road MM in the town of Clifton. A 2013 Chevy Silverado, driven by Vincent Caleb Romo, 18, Cannon Falls, Minn., was traveling southbound, lost control and entered the ditch. The vehicle exited the ditch and crossed 680th Avene, striking a traffic signpost before reentering the ditch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. EMS transported Romo to Regina Hospital in Hastings with suspected minor injuries.

Deputies were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 4:52 a.m. Feb. 21 on County Road J one-third mile north of County Road N in the town of Martell. A 2016 Honda Pilot, driven by Tawni Gerilyn Annette-Vodnik, 37, Spring Valley, was traveling northeast when she entered the south ditch, where she struck and dismembered a mailbox. She tried multiple times to get out of the ditch, at one point backing into a fence. She also got the front bumper stuck in the snow, causing it to come off. She eventually left the vehicle in the ditch. A citizen called it in hours later and it was towed due to disabling damage. Annette-Vodnik reported no injuries. She was cited for failure of operator to notify police of accident, hit and run – property adjacent to highway and possess open intoxicants in motor vehicle – driver.

Police were called to a one-vehicle crash at 7:15 p.m. Feb. 24 on Highway 29 just south of Menomonie Street in Spring Valley. A 2019 Ford Fusion, driven by Zachary Steven Pierzyna, 27, Spring Valley, was going westbound when he saw a large rock in the road. He couldn’t swerve without going into oncoming traffic, so he struck it, damaging both passenger side tires and rims. The vehicle had to be towed. Pierzyna reported no injuries.

Officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash at 5:21 a.m. Feb. 26 on Highway 72 one-half mile west of 330th Street in the town of El Paso. A 2005 Chevy Trailblazer, driven by Rhonda Marie Helmer, 56, Ellsworth, was negotiating a right, uphill curve while heading east, lost control and entered the south ditch. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.

Deputies responded at 4:12 p.m. Feb. 26 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 63 just south of 760th Avenue in the town of Martell. A 2014 Ram 3500, driven by Benjamin Joseph Rysavy, 46, Owatonna, Minn., was heading southbound pulling a trailer. Rysavy said he felt the vehicle drop and observed a tire roll by the vehicle. He was able to pull off onto the road’s shoulder safely. The truck was towed due to disabling damage. No injuries were reported.
