The Pierce County Finance and Personnel Committee recommended new routes for All Terrain Vehicle use, and a new salary for its administrative coordinator at its meeting last Monday afternoon at the Pierce County Courthouse.
An ATV association member attended Pierce County committee meetings and made route requests.
The committee unanimously recommended amending Pierce County Parks and Recreation Code with new routes.
In addition to other routes already open for ATV use, new ones under this measure include: •Town of Trimbelle, on Hwy. O to 480th Avenue to Hwy. 10.
•Town of Rock Elm, on Hwy. X from Hwy. S to 30th Street.
•Town of Hartland, on Hwy. EE from Hwy. D to 210th Avenue.
•Town of Union, on Hwy. ZZ from Hwy. Z to 370th Avenue.
•Town of Union, Hwy. Z from 30th Street to the Pierce/Pepin County Line.
The committee also approved a position description for Children, Youth and Family Lead Initial Assessment Worker position n the Human Services Department.
That was OK’d unanimously.
The committee then convened in closed session for about a half hour to discuss the evaluation of Administrative Coordinator Jason Matthys. A motion was made out of closed session to set his salary at $123,900.
Under agenda planning, it was announced that a future agenda item will be to “readdress the official newspaper issue.”
The panel approved its minutes of its Dec. 2 regular meeting and Dec. 18 special meetings.
One item of interest in the Dec. 2 minutes was recommendation of a resolution to transfer funds from the county general fund for hail damaged roofs and roof repair.
“Thirty Pierce County campus roof buildings sustained hail damage in late August, 2019 (not including the Solid Waste building), that 15 of the 30 roofs were less than 15 years and, and were thus fully covered through the county’s insurance. However, the other 15 roofs were more than 15 years and, and were not fully covered by insurance and were depreciated accordingly.” The county needed to pay $212,403.31, and an additional $40,155.44 for roof problems at the Seyforth Building on the Pierce County Fairgrounds.
The committee recommended a transfer from the general fund of $220,000 to replace campus roofs and $42,000 for the Seyforth Building roof.
The motion carried, but with county board chair Jeff Holst and Jon Auburt opposed.
