Pierce County Hwy. Dept. workers safe after car crashes into truck

There were no injuries Thursday morning when a car slammed into the back of a Pierce County Highway Department truck on Hwy. 35 at 1005th Street in the Town of Diamond Bluff.

The 2018 Hyundai was driven by Jeremy Carlton, 42, of Buffalo, MN and a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office report attributed the accident to “failure to control, disregarded stop sign, operated motor vehicle in inattentive, careless or erratic manner.”

The Highway Department vehicle had work zone warnings placed at various distances behind the truck and working crew, and the driver reportedly blamed sun on the accident.

According to the accident report, “The driver of unit one was operating southbound on Hwy. 35 when he traveled past two large orange signs advising of work zone and construction ahead. Unit one then drove through cones and past a flagger until it struck the back end of a parked highway truck with lights flashing on it.”

Carlton was cited for inattentive driving.
