Pierce County Public Health (PCPH) reports the first death related to COVID-19 in Pierce County. The individual was in his late 70s and had underlying health conditions. Based on the investigation conducted by Pierce County Public Health, the individual appears to have been exposed to the virus in a communal living environment.
“Our condolences go out to the family, friends, and neighbors of this man. This loss is felt by our entire community.” said AZ Snyder, Pierce County Public Health Director.
Over the past month, Pierce County has continued to identify between 23-33 new cases of COVID-19 each week. Local COVID-19 statistics are available on the PCPH, COVID-19 HUB: https://covid-piercecounty- wi.hub.arcgis.com/.
A second death was reported on the county’s COVID-19 Dashboard by Monday morning, and Snyder confirmed another fatality.
Steps that everyone can take to slow the spread of the virus include: •Cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow or a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands afterwards.
• Wash or disinfect your hands frequently.
• Avoid touching your face, especially your eyes, nose and mouth, with unwashed hands.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Physical distance yourself from others when out in the public, as much as you are able.
