ELLSWORTH – The Pierce County Recycling Center gates will start being locked again in the evenings, on weekends and holidays starting Dec. 1, 2025.
You will no longer be able to bring your fibers, containers, scrap metal and used oil in on evenings, weekends or holidays. The Recycling Center hours for dropping off bulky items (like sofas, mattresses, appliances, electronics, tires, etc.) has always been 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for holidays (if a holiday lands on a weekend, we will be closed the day before or after).
The hours to bring in bulky items that have fees will stay the same and is not changing. What is changing is the Recycling Center hours for bringing in fibers, containers, scrap metal and used oil. The bins for fibers and containers will still be available at Ace Hardware for Ellsworth residents if you need to recycle fiber and containers in the evening or on the weekends. Recycling bins for fibers and containers are placed all around Pierce County. Please check your recycling guide or call for the location closest to you.
A reminder also that the recycling commingled container bins anywhere in Pierce County are ONLY for your glass bottles and jars, tin and aluminum cans, and #1, #2 and #5 plastics. The recycling commingled fiber bins are ONLY for your newspaper, cardboard, paper, paperback books and magazines. No plastic bags, no plastic totes or buckets, no Styrofoam, no trash, no scrap metal, no medical sharps, no LP/helium tanks, and no wood should ever be put into these recycling bins.
Please call the recycling center if you have any questions on what can or cannot be placed in those bins. The recycling center does not EVER accept household trash/garbage at the facility or in our bins. Cameras are placed at the bins and at the recycling center. DO NOT ever put things on the ground by the bins. If the bins are full, take it back with you and bring it back when the bins are emptied. DO NOT leave bulky items, electronics or appliances by any bins. These must be brought into the Recycling Center during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., stop in the office first.) There is a charge to drop these bulky items off.
Please plan accordingly as starting Dec. 1, 2025 the gates to the recycling center will be closed evenings, weekends and holidays.
