Pierce County sees multiple crashes Aug. 30

Pierce County deputies were dispatched at 8:47 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 to a single motorcycle crash on County Road S near 190th Street in the town of Union. A 2005 Yamaha, driven by Evan Mercer, 43, Arkansaw, was traveling northbound on County Road S when he struck a deer. Life Link III Helicopter transported Mercer to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, while a personal vehicle transported passenger Beth Wojcik, 36, Arkansaw, to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. Plum City EMS and Plum City Fire also assisted at the scene.

Police responded at 7:35 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26 to a three-vehicle crash near 770th Street and Highway 35 in the town of Trenton. A 2007 Chevy Impala, driven by Katelyn Pederson, 18, Maiden Rock, was traveling southbound on Highway 35 when she struck a 2022 Mazda CX-9, driven by Sherry Long, 49, Prescott, that was also traveling southbound on Highway 35. Long then struck a 2007 Chevy Impala, operated by Clarence Irvin, 63, Maiden Rock, traveling northbound on Highway 35. Red Wing EMS transported Long and Irvin to Red Wing mayo Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Pederson reported no injuries. Red Wing fire and police departments and Ellsworth Fire assisted at the scene.

Pierce County deputies responded to an ATV rollover crash at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30 at a private residence in the town of River Falls. A 2002 Polaris Sportsman 500, operated by Rachel Eastgate, 40, Beldenville, was traveling southbound on private property when she lost control and overturned. Allina EMS transported Eastgate to River Falls Area Hospital with undisclosed injuries. River Falls Fire also assisted at the scene.

Officers were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at 3:31 p.m. Aug. 30 on Highway 63 at County Road N in the town of Martell. A 2002 Honda motorcycle, driven by John Lund, 72, Birchwood, Minn., was traveling westbound on County Road N when it collided with a 2018 Toyota Rav4, driven by Robert McGuire, 35, Winona, Minn, that was heading northbound on Highway 63. Lund has a passenger, identified as Kellie Lund, 66, Birchwood, Minn. McGuire had three passengers: Regina McGuire, 35, Winona, Minn. and two juveniles. EMS transported John Lund to Western Wisconsin Health with undisclosed injuries. No other injuries were reported. Ellsworth Fire, ambulance and police departments assisted at the scene.

Pierce County deputies were dispatched at 6:20 p.m. Aug. 30 to a single-vehicle crash on State Road 35 near 1200th Street in the town of Oak Grove. A 2019 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by Edwin Bonet, 27, Brooklyn Park, Minn., was traveling southbound on 1200th Street when it lost control and struck the roadway. Allina EMS transported Bonet to Regina Hospital in Hastings, Minn. with undisclosed injuries. Prescott Fire also assisted at the scene.

Officers responded at 6:27 p.m. Aug. 30 to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on 480th Avenue near 830th Street in the town of Ellsworth. A 2005 Toyota Sienna, driven by Gary Sukowatey, 74, Ellsworth, was traveling eastbound on 480th Avenue when it collided with a go kart traveling southbound being driven by a 10-year-old juvenile male who was trying to cross 480th Avenue. Ellsworth EMS transported Sukowatey to River Falls Area Hospital and the juvenile to Mayo Hospital in Red Wing, Minn. with undisclosed injuries. Ellsworth Fire also assisted at the scene.
