Firehall Field ready for first action of the summer
Don’t expect big crowds on hand for summer baseball in Prescott. But at least baseball is back!
This was going to be a big year for the CAB (Crazy About Baseball) Company. The organization which oversees the field was granted a permit to serve beer at games this year and put a significant investment into the field. “We took a real hit this year financially,” said Dallas Eggers of the CAB Company. “But everybody’s in the same boat.”
The CAB Company is working with Pierce County Public Health on setting its schedule this year.
“First of all, we couldn’t have 300 people at a game. They’re giving us a maximum number of 50,” said Eggers.
Six-seven players are allowed in the dugout with the rest in chairs behind it. There will be hand sanitizer stations in the dugouts. Eight fans will be allowed in each set of bleachers. Otherwise, fans will be able to sit along the fences and will be told to socially distance “unless they’re family,” said Eggers.
“It’s going to be common sense,” said Eggers. “We can spread out around the field, Pierce County Public Health was very helpful. They want us to succeed. I really tip my hat to the work they are doing.” And those beer sales the group worked to get the ability to have: Not this year. In fact, there will be no concessions at all. But there will be baseball. There are two Pirates games also scheduled for next Saturday and Sunday after opening weekend. The fall season will be busy with Minnesota club ball games at Firehall Field.
