PLUM CITY CARE
CENTER Our thoughts were focused on Independence Day this week and our sing-a-long included patriotic songs of all _avors. We really enjoy the armed services songs and even
the fun ones like “Yankee
Doodle”. They are such upbeat, happy songs. Lunch was served, mail delivered, and a few naps taken until the smell of fresh popped corn aroused our tummies. Stacey delivered the tasty snack to us in our rooms. Just before supper, we enjoyed a fast paced game of bean bags. This week’s winners were: 4th place: Ivan Mason, Alvin Bergmark. 3rd place: Frances White, Ron Hermundson. 2nd place: Beryl Anderson. First place champs this week were: Shirley Klinski and Barb Smith. Tuesday morning’s “Name That Tune” continued the patriotic theme with lots of good songs about America. With many “guessers”, everyone had to think fast to get their answers in _rst. The _nal scores were as follows: 5th place: Hazel Berger (5 correct answers). 4th place: Shirley Klinski (13 correct). 3rd place: Barb Smith (16 correct). 2nd place: Aileen Wayne (18 correct). 1st place, with 19 correct song guesses: Mary Ellen Coulson.
Our afternoon encouraged the
creativity of our folks who meticulously painted clothespins with unbounded enthusiasm!
However, this was only part
of constructing a delightful
patriotic wreath in the making. More to follow on Thursday. Our Wednesday morning welcomed the _rst of July, right on time, and with hot and
muggy tagging along. But we
were cool cucumbers and enjoyed reading through the new July activity calendars. Such
fun upcoming Happy Hours
and regularly scheduled activities as well. We exercised to keep things moving and lunch followed. Bingo was on the agenda for the afternoon with oodles of candy rewards ready to be earned. Black out winner this week was Marilyn Heath.
The bowling bunch greeted the Thursday morning and they were ready to roll. Over a
dozen folks played and a few
bystanders cheered everyone on. Coming in _rst place, one
point shy from a perfect score,
were three _nishers: Zeona Bechel, Shirley Klinski, and Irene Converse. Dorene Melstrom and Ron Hermundson followed in 2nd place. 3rd
place tie: Milly Fredrickson
and Beryl Anderson. 4th place _nishers: Alvin Bergmark and Rosie Schreiner. Thank you to Marilyn Heath for keeping score. Lunch was served and mail was delivered. The
crafters gathered in the dining room to construct the wreaths they had begun on Tuesday.
The red, white, and blue clothespins were assembled and stars added to complete
their patriotic wreaths just in time for the July 4th holiday!
Friday morning was spent
exercising our brain with some trivia work. It’s amazing the
facts our brains can hold, and some information maybe best forgotten! After lunch, and mail delivery, it was time for our weekly happy hour. We celebrated National Chocolate Wafer Cookie Day! Good grief! What will they come up with next! No one complained, though, and we enjoyed snacking on the cookies.
Independence Day was
relaxing. It is always fun to see sta_ dressed in their red,
white and blues and watch
some televised _reworks. After lunch, many folks meandered outdoors to soak up the
summer sun. Stacey delivered
refreshing treats of Patriotic
popsicles. They were a fantastic method of cooling down on a sweltering summer day.
A fun game of dart ball ended
the afternoon. Winners were: 4th place: Beryl Anderson. 3rd place: Shirley Klinski. 2nd place: Dorene Melstrom. 1st place: Alvin Bergmark. On Sunday morning, everyone was o_ered the opportunity to worship through their particular church service on television. Later in the afternoon, Jessica delivered snacks and drinks to everyone! And even though it was the Birthday of Spam, we opted for chips and cookies instead! A little time left in the afternoon for Mad Libs, and a “chill down” evening before beginning the week ahead. As the number of covid-19 cases increase in our county, we are saddened that we cannot yet
have visitors. We advise everyone to be strong advocates
in the community by promoting the message to follow all
the guidelines by the CDC and
set the example to mask, hand
wash, social distance and take
all the measures provided. Until the case rates go down in the county, it is unlikely we will
resume a “normal” life. Case counts directly in_uence when we will be able to resume visits from family and friends, so please, consider what
you can do to keep this virus away. Take care everyone.
Our in-house technician, Zeona Bechel, is really a
_recracker herself!
“Aunt” Shirley Klinski was hanging around with “Uncle” Sam who was welcoming everyone in the lobby.
Sue Robelia had a little fun with the silly patriotic glasses as she shows her patriotic spirit!
Our doors were adorned with these beautiful _ag wreaths made by the residents!
