Plum City Care Center celebrates the 4th

We kicked off the week with our Monday Movers exercise group. We gently stretched arms, shoulders and legs all from the safety and comfort of our seats! After we moved our bodies, it was time to warm up our vocal chords at Karaoke Sing Along. We sang all the way up to lunchtime and once the meal was through and the mail had been passed out, we embraced our inner artists at Crafty Corner. This week, we painted rocks to look like ladybugs and they sure turned out cute! We plan to put them outside in the rock beds for everyone to enjoy. Our weekly game of Tic Tac Toss followed craft time and we had a huge group trying their luck this week! Shirley Klinski and Alice Brantner tied for fourth place, Kevin Bauer came in third and it was another tie for second: Frances White and Milda Bautch. Our first-place winner this week for Tic Tac Toss was Jeff Halverson! After some supper, we cleared off the tables for Monday night Bingo. Thank you so much to Teresa Fedie, Kathy Luebker and Riley for all their wonderful help setting up, cleaning up and passing candy prizes!

Tuesday morning began with Father Jojo at Catholic mass for folks; what a peaceful and uplifting way to start the day! Lunch followed, as well as mail pass, and pretty soon we smelled the delicious scent of fresh-popped popcorn coming from the dining room. Residents followed their noses and scooped up bowlfuls of the crunchy, salty snack at our afternoon Popcorn Social! Afternoon church was cancelled but that didn’t stop us from gathering for a friendly game of Dart Ball. Judy Thorn came in fourth place, Frances White was the third-place winner, with Maria Christopherson coming in second place. Alice Brantner was the first-place winner! Dart Ball took us right up to suppertime and then the easygoing day ended with an evening of games with Aaliyah!

The summer sun shone brightly as we began Wednesday morning with some bowling! Our strong group of bowlers were ready to compete and pretty soon all you heard was crashing pins and rousing cheers. Bill Joyner won fourth place, Shirley Klinski came in third place and Jeff Halverson was the second-place winner. Kevin Bauer won first place this week! All that bowling sure whipped up our appetites; thankfully lunch was not too far away. Fruit Bingo in the afternoon was up next and we had one of our largest groups yet. Seasons resident Barb Grewe was our blackout Bingo winner this week! We appreciated having the help of volunteers Harriet Rothe (calling numbers, set up and clean up) and Irene Helmueller (set up, clean up and candy prize delivery); you ladies are wonderful! The fun continued as we had a Wednesday watermelon social; crisp and cool watermelon on a hot summer day…yummy!

Thursday morning is reserved for our “Local News and Coffee” social and Rothe stopped by to read us the paper. She is always a wealth of information, good news and stories to tell. We shared a few of our own until our time was done since lunch was just around the corner. In the afternoon we offered manicures for our gals and we had a huge lineup of ladies waiting to get pampered all afternoon! We had a few adventurous souls who chose yellow for a bright pop of color and red, white & blue in anticipation of Independence Day. Painting all those nails took us to suppertime and then afterward it was Pokeno with Aaliyah!

We started Friday morning with a new game…Chicken Toss! Residents gathered around to throw four rubber chickens at a dart board target on the floor to see who could get the highest score and they didn’t disappoint! Dennis Schuh scored fourth place, Judy Thorn was the third-place winner and Jeff Halverson nabbed second place. Alice Brantner sailed into the first place spot this week! The game was a little silly but it seemed to be a hit, so we will definitely play it again soon. After lunch was cleaned up and mail was passed out, it was time for Snack Makers. Since we are smack dab in the middle of summer, it was the perfect time of year to cut up strawberries and mix them with blueberries and pineapple for a refreshing fruit cup! This sweet snack was perfect for our Happy Hour treat and we enjoyed it while listening to live music from Rudy Rudesill. Supper followed and then we settled in for our Friday night movie; this week, we watched the 80’s teen romance “Can’t Buy Me Love!” Sound like fun? Stop by for a visit and stay a while; we would love to see your smiling faces!
