At Card Club Monday morning, Noel led a BIG group of residents through several hands of UNO! We had no shortage of fun and laughs as we played the game, so much so that the consensus was to keep playing UNO through Karaoke. Noel put on the tunes in the background and even more residents came to the dining room to join in the morning festivities! Lunch followed and once mail was delivered, Noel, with the help of Chef Jeff Halverson, mixed up a batch of Corn Pudding at Kitchen Corner. Once the pan of pudding made it out of the oven, it was busy cooling as Noel gathered folks in the dining room for a game of Tic Tac Toss. It was a competitive game in which Shirley Klinski and Ivan Mason tied for fourth place with 55 points, Janet Robelia and Jeff Halverson tied for third with 60 points and Yvonne Sinz placed second with 70 points. Milda Bautch was our first-place winner of the week with a huge 75 points! Supper filled hungry bellies and then we played Monday night Bingo in the dining room with Marie and Joyce Berger. We appreciated all their wonderful help!

We eased gently into Tuesday with Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel at Mass after breakfast for our Catholic residents; we were all definitely saying prayers for these cold early June temps to be over soon! Once lunch came and went, there was plenty of time to deliver the mail and chat with friends. The popcorn machine was fired up in the early afternoon by Willow in preparation for our Popcorn Social and soon you could smell (and hear!) those kernels popping away! After residents scooped up every last bit of popcorn, there was lots of time for arranging flowers during social visits, walking outside and sing alongs into the afternoon. Pastor Paul from Sabylund Lutheran joined us for church a little later and the day was capped off with a delicious evening meal!

We always have a blast starting Wednesdays with bowling and this week was no different! It was a great game played by our group of 11 bowlers; after three rounds, Kevin Bauer was the fourth-place winner, Pam Gansluckner came in third and Shirley Klinski tied with Milda Bautch for second. Janet Robelia and Wilbur Black were our first-place bowling winners this week! After a delicious lunch, everyone came back to the dining room for an afternoon game of Fruit Bingo. A huge thank you goes out to volunteers Lana Ingli and Shirley Klein for all their help with the game. Visitor Linda (Bauer) Becker was the big Blackout Bingo winner this week! After the game, during our Mid-Week Social, we celebrated National Corn on the Cob Day by tucking into that sweet and savory Corn Pudding made earlier in the week. Yummy!

We had a lot of residents come out to hear Kathy Shingledecker read us the papers Thursday morning at our Local News and Coffee group. It’s always nice to spend the morning with everyone while catching up with what’s been happening in our community! After lunch was enjoyed the ladies lined up for their weekly manicures with Stacey; not only did they enjoy indulging in a little pampering, but it was also fun having a little time for “girl talk.” As the afternoon progressed, there was plenty of time for one-on-one visits with other folks as well; Stacey brought around books and activity supplies to folks in their rooms, as well as wheelchair rides around the facility both inside and outside. The afternoon ended with residents playing table games in the dining room--one table was set aside for a Euchre group, while Stacey played the dice game “Climb the Mountain” with others. Players yodeled as they each reached the top of the mountain, with Goldie Helwig being one of the top yodelers/winners of the afternoon!

Friday morning everyone went out to the dining room for a game of Dart Ball! We had a HUGE group of 18 players for the morning’s activity, and we had tons of fun playing through two rounds. Our top three winners of the morning were: Kevin Bauer in third place with 650 points, Jeff Halverson in second with 700 points and Yvonne Sinz in first with 720 points! As morning turned into afternoon, we enjoyed a pleasant lunch and then got ready for our Birthday Celebration Happy Hour. Rich Schroeder stopped by and entertained us with soulful and classic guitar tunes while we snacked on cold drinks and chocolate cake! Dinner came and went and it was soon time to settle in for our Friday night movie; this week we watched “Little Man Tate” starring Jodie Foster.
