Memorial Day welcomed our week and what a treat to have the men and women from the American Legion (Plum City Post) join us to recognize our own veterans.
Flags were distributed to the following vets: Paul Bauer, Vern Bocksell, Ivan Mason, Perry Melstrom, Jim Blomstrom, John Enney, J. Henry Gingras, Herb Tschumperlin, Joe Berger, and John Lippert.
Our afternoon included a fun game of bingo with Ann Heath assisting Jessica with delivering rewards.
Tuesday is our church day beginning with mass and communion with Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel. It is a nice time of worship and music.
Name That Tune filled in the following hour with many songs and many guessers.
Top guesser this week was Penny Stafford with 16 correct answers. Carol Bauer was close behind with 15.
Mary Ellen Coulson came in with 12 correct answers and Barb Gruewe was on her heels with 11. Shirley Klinski also had nine guesses on the board. The afternoon brought out crafters to make some confetti letters. Folks chose the first letter of their first name and smothered paint of their choice on the front. Then came the layer of mod podge followed by confetti dots made out of tissue paper. They turned out adorably and many are hung on the wall. Pastor Pfaue ar rived for church and greeted everyone personally. Supper was soon served and we finished up the evening with a couple of Uno games. Shirley Klinski was the top winner with Frances in second place.
A few ladies gathered for coffee and a few games of “Climb the Mountain.” Nancy Bishop won one game and Frances White won another game. The afternoon began with everyone receiving a June calendar. It is always fun to see the new and exciting events coming up for the month. Folks soon filed in for our midweek bingo game. Assisting with set up, clean up, and candy rewards were the “Kindhearted” Kathy Shingledecker and “Magical” Marlene Zimmer!
Penny Stafford was our lucky black out winner. We ended the afternoon with refreshing root beer floats!
Harriet Rothe arrived Thursday morning with her bag full of fun and smiles. She shared all the community news with us from Durand to Ellsworth. We also get treated to “extra” news Harriet always brings with her. The afternoon filled up quickly with ladies getting manicures. There were many new summer colors from which to choose. Once our nails were dry, we were able to hold one of Brad Richardson’s adorable puppies. There are new babies all the time. We often miss our “regulars” after seeing them for a few weeks.
But we know they have all found their new homes and families.
Friday is drumming day.
With a smaller group, everyone was able to have two big drums to play, make up rhythms and really explore the possibilities with varied tunes. Happy hour was just around the corner and our theme was the Big Top Circus and National Donut Day.
The dining room morphed into a big top tent and soon all kinds of circus “acts” entered. We had lion trainers, knife swallowers, jugglers, a bearded lady, and of course the ring master among many others. Everyone had fun and was treated to a donut afterwards. Plan now to come sit a spell and admire our newly planted flowers. We love having company and the coffee’s always on!
