Cupcake Day. What better way to start a Monday than with a holiday? Our great dietary department celebrated by making cupcakes! We could smell them baking during the sing-a-long and it was easy to let our tummies distract us. After lunch, with cupcakes, we took time to sit outside watching Laura water all the flowers, the UPS man making deliveries, and neighbors walking by and stopping in once in a while to say howdy. There is never a shortage of things to watch during the day. Occasionally, we will catch a doe and her fawns taking a walk down to the creek! Popcorn was on the agenda for the afternoon. Many folks come down just for the conversation with the popcorn being a plus. With our snack for the road, we gathered around for a boisterous game of bowling. It’s quite evident when someone gets a strike as the dining room erupts with cheers! Just before supper, we played a competitive game of bowling. Winners this week were: Fourth place, Willy Lindstrom (had one strike); third place, Lou Seyffer (one strike), Shirley Klinski ( one strike); second place, Alvin Bergmark (one strike); first place, Zeona Bechel (two strikes) and Beryl Anderson (two strikes). Our evening included bingo. Thank you to Ann Heath who helped out and donates candy and treats regularly!
It was a quiet start to our Tuesday beginning with mass and communion for our Catholic folks. Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel arrived to officiate and make a couple room visits. Name That Tune followed with many songs including “Shoo Fly Pie and Apple Pan Dowdy.” According to one of our residents, “That song was way before all of our time!” First place winner with 17 correct guesses, Penny Stafford; second place, Barb Smith (nine guesses); third place, Shirley Klinski (seven); fourth place, Hazel Berger and Aileen Wayne with six correct answers each. In the afternoon, the crafters took step two of their potato jewelry. The potatoes have dried and shrunk (“like us!” said one of our seniors). They were blackened and hard as rocks; ready to be painted. Everyone chose their own colors and mixtures as the pieces will be combined with colorful bead work in between. After cleaning the paint out of our fingernails, we prepared for church with Pastor Paul from Sabylund Lutheran Church. We appreciate his visits and sharing God’s work with us each month. The evening was busy with dice games, but no gambling allowed (haha). Big winners were Alvin Bergmark and Nancy Bishop.
Movers and shakers shook up the morning Wednesday with music to keep them motivated. A quick game of kickball completed the morning exercise. Lunch arrived and soon Wanda Ebensperger, Linda Delong and Kathy Shingledecker were at our door, ready to set up bingo. They assisted and delivered candy rewards. Black out winner this week was Willy Lindstrom. Our Watermelon Wednesday social followed. What a wonderful treat!
It was a Harriet Rothe kind of morning as she arrived with newsy news. Harriet read to us from the Courier Wedge and the Pierce County Journal. We always manage to get off on tangents before the morning is done. However, no one minds and everyone participates. The afternoon began with many of our ladies sprucing up their nails and eager to have a manicure. It’s such fun choosing colors, sharing stories and just enjoying spending time with our friends. We had a little time for a good game of bean bags before supper. Winners were: Third place, Beryl Anderson; second, Sandy Messier, Alvin Bergmark; first, Frances White. Supper was served and our evening ended with Pokeno.
The drummers fired up the dining room first thing Friday morning with their super rhythm skills and enthusiastic attitudes. They play for almost an hour and leave feeling as though they had just had an exercise group. Lunch was served and soon Stacey was busy delivering mail and making room visits. Mid-afternoon, a few of our cooks made pigs-in-a- blanket, although no one could understand why you’d want a blanket in this weather! Happy Hour this week was a fun hour of karaoke and WE were the stars! We sang with so many great songs on the television. Our evening game was “Cover the Number.” Big winners were Barb Smith, Shirley Klinski, Irene Converse, and Sandy Messier.
We wish you a good week ahead. Is there someone you know in our home you would like to visit? Give us a call and set up an appointment time. We’d love to see you! (715647-2401)

Harry Kincaid was the star of the show singing, ‘I’ve Been working on the Railroad,’ at Plum City Care Center’s Kickin’ Karaoke happy hour.
Always fun to have in a crowd, Hazel Berger loved singing all the songs at Plum City Care Center’s Kickin’ Karaoke happy hour.
Lou Seyffer had a chance to be a rockstar during our Kickin’ Karaoke happy hour at Plum City Care Center.
Singing along with Stacey we found Ivan Mason who knew most of the words to the songs.
