Plum City Care Center Chatter: Feb. 24-28

Activities were back on Monday morning and Noel led an energetic group through a 30-minute seated exercise at Monday Movers right after breakfast! Everyone put in a great effort and we all agreed that it had been far too long since our last workout. Stacey tuned up her guitar and everyone stuck around for a lively Sing A long afterward. The morning passed quickly and once lunch was over and mail delivered, Noel and Chef Jeff were back in the dining room for the newest edition of Kitchen Corner; this week’s creation was a fluffy and fruity Pistachio Salad! We had a huge crowd gathered later on for a game of Tic Tac Toss and while most everyone agreed that we were a little rusty, there were still some folks who scored a record number of points! Ivan Mason and Dennis Fedie tied for fourth with 55 points, Alice Brantner came in third with 60 points and Yvonne Sinz scored second with 105 points. Kay George took home the first-place title with 110 points! After supper, folks came out for Monday night Bingo and a great night was enjoyed by all.

Tuesday at the care center was very quiet this week; Deacon Mark and Terry Pelzel arrived after breakfast for Catholic Mass and led residents through a peaceful prayer and Communion service. After lunch, there was no activity staff in the building, so folks had a free afternoon!

By mid-week, folks were excited to finally come out for bowling Wednesday morning! There was quite a crew gathered, and everyone had a ton of fun as Kay George and Wilbur Black tied for fourth, Herb Tschumperlin and Jeff Halverson tied for third and Ivan Mason and Zeona Bechel tied for second. It was also a tie for first place between Milda Bautch and Larry Thompson! A special thank you to John Robelia for help with pin resetting. Lunch brought an end to our game and once the meal was over and tables were wiped off, it was time to get ready for Fruit Bingo. It was the first afternoon in three weeks that we’ve been able to play so we had quite the turnout: six tables with 22 players, including four guests! Wilbur Black was extra lucky this week as he had a full table of visitors, including his cousin Gail and her husband Howard. A huge thanks to Harriet Rothe for calling numbers and assisting with clean up! Pam Gansluckner was the Blackout Bingo champion and winner of the dollar prize this week! Once the chips and cards were cleaned up, it was on to the Mid-Week Social, where folks snacked on pistachio salad made earlier in the week. It was a delightfully cool sweet treat on a very warm February day!

Thursday morning, Lana Ingli had a large group of residents to read the news to at our weekly Local News and Coffee group! It was a relaxing (and informative!) way to begin the day. After a little lunch was enjoyed and the mail delivered, Stacey gathered folks together for the monthly Resident Council meeting. It was a great turnout, with lots of new faces in attendance; many topics were discussed, including the past month’s activities and what was coming up in March! After the meeting was adjourned there was a little down time before Stacey brought out her cart of supplies for manicures. All our ladies took advantage of the offers for a little pampering and most were game to switch up their usual nail colors. This week, the popular color was a beautiful robin’s egg blue! Once supper came and went, Willow arrived for an evening game of Pokeno with residents.

The end of the week finally came and Stacey began the day with a little Friday morning Twister Toss! The competition was fierce and once all the points had been tallied by the end of the game Ivan Mason was in fourth place, Wilbur Black came in third and Wanda Traynor scored second. Yvonne Sinz was this week’s first place winner! Lunch brought an end to the morning merry-making and once the dishes were done and the mail delivered, things quieted down during the early afternoon. But soon, Rudy Rudesill arrived for Happy Hour and folks came down to the dining room to sing along to the lively tunes, as well as snack on chocolate chip pancake bites in celebration of National Pancake Day! The party was over way too quickly, but soon supper was served and then the comedy “What’s Up, Doc?” was shown on the big screen to entertain folks in the evening. It was so great to be back together again for activities!
