Plum City Care Center Chatter for Aug. 16

And just like that, the weekend was over and Monday morning brought out residents for Monday Movers morning exercise! We kept things nice and easy with gentle yoga stretches and neck, arm and leg movements to loosen up limbs as we listened to soothing music in the background. We sang our hearts out afterwards at Karaoke; there’s nothing better than singing fun songs together to put you in a good mood for the day! After lunch, the afternoon brought folks back to the dining room for our Crafty Corner art project; this week we designed beautiful kites to add to the rainbow and flowers on our gallery wall. Most people hung around for an afternoon game of Tic Tac Toss and they did not disappoint this week! Virginia Fritz came in fourth place, Kevin Bauer was third place and Shirley Klinski came in second. Dennis Schuh was this week’s Tic Tac Toss winner! Volunteers Marie and Joyce Berger arrived after supper for the Monday night Bingo game; thank you ladies for always cheerfully helping with set up, clean up and prize passing!

Tuesday activities begin after breakfast with Catholic mass with Father Jojo; we always love to see his smiling face around the place. Once lunch was served, eaten and cleaned up we waited (not so patiently) for fresh popcorn to be made for the afternoon’s Popcorn Social at 2p.m.  There’s just something about freshly popped popcorn that brings out the kid in all of us; our residents’ eyes always light up when we serve them each their bowls! Later on, Pastor Phil from Evangelical Free came for afternoon church; it is always a comfort to have such wonderful faith leaders visit the care center to uplift us with prayer! Tuesday wrapped up with supper and evening games with Aaliyah.

Bowling was the name of the game Wednesday morning and our 12 competitors sure knew how to keep the crowd entertained! Kevin Bauer won fourth place; Frances White, Mary Matzek and Shirley Klinski all came in third, and Dennis Schuh was the second-place winner. We had a tie for first place: Milda Bautch and Dorothy Pfaffe! Then it was lunch next, followed by afternoon activities beginning with Fruit Bingo. Thank you to our volunteers Marlene Zimmer and Kathy Shingledecker for their wonderful assistance with set-up, clean-up and candy prize passing. This week, Zeona Bechel from the Seasons won blackout! The temperature outside was so hot and humid that most everyone stayed in the dining room for our mid-week Ice Cream Sandwich Social. It was the perfect treat to keep us cool on a hot summer day!

Harriet Rothe came by Thursday morning to read all the news from the local papers and to share a cup of coffee. We loved hearing what’s going on in the community and connecting with all our kind volunteers who come for a visit! Lunch followed and mid-afternoon many of our ladies lined up for manicures, so we were kept busy all afternoon tending to their nails. The gals always choose such bright and beautiful colors; lately we’ve been seeing several shades of pink, green and blue plus glitter added as a top coat! Later in the afternoon, there was plenty of time for visiting with residents and playing with Buddy Boxes. We capped off the day with some supper and then Aaliyah gathered folks together in the dining room for a game of Pokeno.

Dart Ball kicked off our Friday morning with 12 residents hoping to take home the title of first place! Fourth place went to Dennis Schuh, Judy Thorn claimed third place and Shirley Klinski came in second place! Alice Brantner was our first-place winner this week! The game took us almost right up to lunch and after the meal there was a little bit of downtime to relax. But there wasn’t too much time for relaxing as we had residents help make Animal Cracker Dip at the afternoon Snack Makers activity. This week for Happy Hour we had a special surprise for folks – Darla and her Dancing Horse, Bugle, came to entertain us on the back patio outside! We had a fun time petting him and watching him interact with the crowd; he was such a sweet and gentle miniature horse. A yummy supper was served and then residents stuck around for our Friday night movie. This week’s feature film was “Summer School.” What a great way to end the day (and week)!
