And just like that, it was Monday again and Noel had a great group of residents out for Monday Movers! We moved and grooved, working up a sweat while exercising in our chairs. After a little breather it was time for a Sing Along, with Stacey on guitar, where everyone harmonized to popular songs such as “Buffalo Gals” and “You Are My Sunshine.” Lunch was served after the morning activities and then mail was delivered. To begin the afternoon, Noel, assisted by resident Chef Jeff Halverson, made a sunshine-y Lemonade Cake at our Kitchen Corner baking group. The rest of the afternoon consisted of lots of visiting, card games, puzzles and even a visit from three fluffy bunnies! A game of Tic Tac Toss came afterward, and it was quite the game with Brenda Lerum, Nancy Bishop and Jeff Halverson securing fourth, Herb Tschumperlin coming in third and Audrey Helmueller tying with Yvonne Sinz for second. Judy Thorn was this week’s first-place winner! Supper ushered in the evening and then we played Monday night Bingo with Kathy Luebker. Thanks for all her wonderful assistance!
Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel were at the care center after breakfast for Mass and residents spent a tranquil Tuesday morning in prayer. As we continue to make our way through warm summer days, we are so blessed to have such wonderful and caring faith leaders to tend to our community! Lunch was enjoyed and after the mail was passed out to folks, Willow arrived for one of the most anticipated Tuesday afternoon activities: Popcorn Social. She brought out the well-loved popcorn machine and made two huge batches of buttery, salty popcorn for the crowd of residents hungry to get their hands on a bowl (or two)! While the delightful smell of fresh popcorn wafted throughout the care center, Stacey made her way room to room, giving wheelchair rides around the building and spending one-on-one time with folks. A little later, Stacey led a hymn sing for our Tuesday afternoon church service before suppertime!
The next day all you could hear was loud cheering and crashing bowling pins coming from the dining room after breakfast--must be Wednesday! We had a great time with our helpers Maverick and Garry as 14 residents played three exciting rounds. Kevin Bauer won fourth place; Janet Robelia, Barb Holmstadt and Yvonne Sinz all claimed third; and Shirley Klinski, Ivan Mason and Wilbur Black came in second. Goldie Helwig tied with Jeff Halverson for this week’s first-place win! Lunch refreshed everyone and then the mail was delivered to folks. Fruit Bingo was next on the agenda, and we had a HUGE group of 22 players that resulted in seven tables full! It was such a big crowd; we especially appreciated all the help that afternoon from volunteers Wanda Ebensperger and Monica Krings. Thank you so much, ladies! The blackout bingo winner this week was Wilbur Black! Our day concluded with the Mid-Week Social and residents indulged their sweet teeth with slices of lemonade cake. Lemony sweet cake with homemade whipped cream frosting? Yes please!
Thursday began with a delicious cup of coffee and the local news being read to residents by Marlene Zimmer. We sure appreciate our volunteers who stop by for a chat and to keep us informed on what is happening in our community! Lunch followed and then Willow came in the afternoon to offer manicures to all our ladies in line. It is always a relaxing way to spend the latter part of the day and the gals really enjoyed the pampering they received! After a pleasant afternoon spent visiting with folks, Willow gathered everyone in the dining for table games before supper.
Our Friday morning Shuffleboard game drew a small number of residents, but we still had a ball trying to score the most points! Kevin Bauer came in fourth place, Goldie Helwig was the third-place winner and Yvonne Sinz took second place. Jeff Halverson was the first-place winner this week! We enjoyed a bit of lunch and then Noel and Chef Jeff worked together at Snack Makers to prepare soft pretzels and portion out nacho cheese into bowls for everyone to snack on during Happy Hour! Unfortunately, there was no musical guest for Friday afternoon’s Happy Hour, but Noel brought folks into the dining room nonetheless for a very relaxed and low-key afternoon party of music, drinks and soft pretzels and cheese! Supper was soon served afterward and then everyone eagerly awaited the evening’s Classic Car Cruise. Once the parade of cars and trucks roared up the street and towards the care center, we all lost track of how many vehicles paraded past; it seemed like there was at least 100! It was a beautiful evening for the Plum City Days Car Cruise and everyone had a wonderful time!
