Plum City Care Center Chatter: Love grows here

Posted

Monday morning came once again and with it, our Monday Movers seated group to start the week off right! Stacey and Noel led residents in easy and gentle exercises, all from the comfort of their chairs. Once everyone caught their breath, Stacey tuned up the guitar to lead everyone in an energetic Sing A Long which concluded with arrival of lunchtime. Lunch flew by and once the dining room was all cleaned up, Crafty Corner commenced! Folks came out to celebrate the upcoming Valentine holiday by creating heart trees; using a heart stencil and colorful paint, our gallery wall was now sprouting beautiful heart trees and proving that “Love Grows Here.” It wasn’t too long before Noel gathered residents for the weekly Tic Tac Toss game where Barb Halling, Bill Joyner and Beryl Anderson tied for fourth place, Herb Tschumperlin came in third and Dorothy Pfaffe claimed second. Carol Campbell was the week’s first-place champion! After a bit of supper, we once again were together in the dining room for Bingo with Marie and Joyce Berger. Thanks for the stellar help ladies!

Father Jojo was here Tuesday morning for Mass and residents welcomed the quiet service as the start to their day. Lunch soon followed church and then as the afternoon began, Aaliyah was here to make delicious popcorn and pass it out to everyone at the Popcorn Social! Tuesdays are always a slower-paced and relaxing day and it’s nice to have extra time to linger while we visit with each other. As the afternoon continued, Pastor Paul from Sabylund Lutheran Church arrived for church and residents gathered to listen to his words of peace and comfort. Soon, the light outside was softening and dinner was upon us; afterwards, Aaliyah entertained everyone with an evening of games!

Wednesday was Valentine’s Day, plus Ash Wednesday so we had a lot to keep us busy! Father Jojo was back in the morning for Ash Wednesday services and as the mass was winding down, Stacey and Noel dressed up the dining room in anticipation of the Sweethearts Luncheon at noon. The red and pink tablecloths were laid and the sparkling cider poured as the room was all set to host residents and their spouses at our annual Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Luncheon, featuring lovely harp music by Kristen Reinhardt! Love was definitely in the air and once lunch was over, the spirit of Valentine’s Day continued as residents gathered for Fruit Bingo with Lana Ingli here to help with set up, clean up and prize passing.  Thank you for your assistance, Lana! Annette, a visitor from the Plum City community who came to play, was the big winner at Blackout this week! We capped off the day of love with crisp wine, sparkling cider and decadent chocolates at our Mid-Week Social.

Thursday morning, we caught up on our community news with Marlene Zimmer at the Local News and Coffee group! We appreciated her stopping by as she always has extra tidbits and stories to share with everyone. Lunch was next on the agenda and once the tables were cleared, Aaliyah was here to primp and pamper our gals with custom manicures! There’s always quite a lineup of ladies and this week, pinks and reds (in honor of Valentine’s Day) with an overlay of sparkles is the most popular choice. We continued having pleasant conversations with each other as we waited for nails to finish drying and before you knew it, it was time to prepare for supper. Once we enjoyed our evening meal, folks stuck around in the dining room as Aaliyah led the group in a game of Pokeno!

Friday came quickly and with the return of a cold, wintery snowfall, nobody was really in the mood for exercising at Fitness Friday. So we did what we do best and switched gears quickly into a rousing game of Dart Ball to boost everyone’s spirits! Shirley Klinski claimed fourth place this week, Barb Grewe nabbed third and Bill Joyner snuck into second. Carol Bauer from the Seasons was our big Dart Ball winner this week! After lunch, folks stuck around to visit and converse with each other as we eased into the afternoon. Happy Hour saw us sipping on root beer floats and snapping our fingers to the piano tunes of Johnny Keyz, a new entertainer making his Plum City Care Center debut! His lively and funny plunking of the keyboard put us all in a happy mood and the hour just flew by. We ended the day with some supper and then settled in for Movie Night: this week’s film was the Chevy Chase comedy “Fletch.”
