Plum City Care Center Chatter: Summer is buzzing along

Posted

We started the week strong at Monday Movers seated exercise group; residents gathered for a gentle workout where we stretched arms and legs and got our hearts pumping! Sing Along was next on the agenda and those who stuck around sang along to Stacey on the piano, as tunes like “Clementine” and “In the Garden” rang out from the dining room. Lunch followed and once the tables were wiped down, we let our imagination run wild at Crafty Corner. This week, we traced everyone’s hands to create buzzing bumblebees for our gallery wall – we are definitely buzzing through summer! A thrilling game of Tic Tac Toss was our afternoon activity and we had a huge group of competitors. Dennis Schuh came in fourth place, Bill Joyner and Jeff Halverson were the third-place winners and Milda Bautch came in second place. Kevin Bauer was the first-place winner this week! After supper came and went, we gathered back in the dining room for an evening game of Bingo. Many thanks to volunteers Kathy Luebker and Teresa Fedie for all their wonderful help with set up, clean up and candy prize passing!

We eased gently into Tuesday with Father Jojo at Mass after breakfast for our Catholic residents; we are all definitely saying prayers these hot summer temps will be over soon! Once lunch concluded, there was plenty of time to deliver the mail and chat with friends. The popcorn machine was fired up in the early afternoon for our Popcorn Social and soon you could smell (and hear!) those kernels popping away! As residents scooped up every last bit of popcorn, it was time to gather again for church; this week we welcomed Pastor Paul from Sabylund Lutheran. After a yummy supper, residents stayed in the dining room to play evening games with Aaliyah!

We always have a blast starting Wednesdays with bowling and this week was no different! We had such a large group of bowlers that there was only time for three rounds for each competitor.  Milda Bautch was the fourth-place winner, Alice came in third place and we had a three-way tie for second place: Bill Joyner, Judy Thorn and Shirley Klinski. Kevin Bauer was our first-place bowling winner this week! After a delicious lunch, everyone came back to the dining room for an afternoon of Fruit Bingo. A huge thank you goes out to volunteers Julie Tschumperlin and Lana Ingli for helping with set up, clean up and passing prizes to the residents! Jeff Halverson was the big Blackout Bingo winner this week! We cooled off afterwards with slices of watermelon at our Watermelon Wednesday Social.

We had a lot of residents come out to hear to hear Marlene Zimmer read us the news Thursday morning. It’s always nice to spend the morning with everyone while catching up with what’s been happening in our community! After lunch was cleaned up the ladies lined up for their weekly manicures; not only do they enjoy indulging in a little pampering but it’s also fun having a little time for “girl talk.” As the afternoon progresses, there was plenty of time for one-on-one visits with other folks as well as Busy Box activities for residents who don’t always make it out for our regular fun and games. There’s always something for everyone at the care center! The day concluded with supper and then Pokeno in the evening Aaliyah.

Friday morning brought everyone out to the dining room for a game of Dart Ball! We had another large group for the morning’s activity, so there was only time to squeeze in three quick rounds. Milda Bautch came in fourth place, Shirley Klinski was the third-place winner and Judy Thorn came in second place. Dorothy Pfaffe was the first-place winner this week! As morning turned into afternoon, we enjoyed a pleasant lunch and got ready for our weekly Happy Hour.  Jim Sexton stopped by and entertained us with tunes on his guitar while we snacked on fresh raspberry smoothies! Dinner came and went and it was soon time to settle in for our Friday night movie; this week we watched “The Borrowers.” The weeks always seem to fly by but we always have time to say “hello” to whomever stops by for a visit!
