Monday morning and music was our caffeine to perk us up and get us going for the week. We sang songs about the rain, since we finally got a bit over the weekend. “Singing in the Rain” and “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” were favorites along with “April Showers,” of course followed by “I’m Always Chasing Rainbows.” We savored a delicious lunch and then took time for some quiet time before the afternoon activities. Soon, Stacey fired up the popcorn machine and everyone dove into a bowl of this crunchy snack. There’s always a good round of conversation going while we snack. Bowling was offered just before supper and there were many competitive contenders. Top winners were all within one point of the other! Fourth place: Beryl Anderson; third place, Zeona Bechel; second place, Irene Converse; first place champs, Alvin Bergmark and Penny Stafford. The evening concluded with a fun game of fruit bingo. Thank you, Marie and Joyce Berger, for assisting with candy and fruit delivery.
Father Joe made his last appearance with us on Tuesday morning for mass and communion. We are so saddened to see him go, but when God calls, you’d better answer! We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Terry Pelzel will fill in for us for a couple weeks and we will welcome the new priest soon after. “Name That Tune” was next on the agenda and over a dozen folks challenged each other for the first to “name that tune.” Top Tuner’s this week were: Fourth place, Hazel Berger (10 correct guesses); third place, Shirley Klinski (11 correct answers); second place, Mary Ellen Coulson and Alice Girard (13 correct answers); first place, Penny Stafford (18 correct answers). The afternoon focused on our painters. They worked on painting vases to hold summer flowers from the backyard on our tables. For some, this was the first time using “chalk” paint. As we cleaned up our paint brushes, Pastor Karna and Tom set up for our weekly church service. We take joy in worshipping with our local pastors and appreciate their willingness to share with us. Our evening included some entertaining dice games. Big winner was Shirley Klinski.
“Sit Down Dancing” welcomed Wednesday first thing in the morning. The temps outside were heating up and so were we! But it’s a good feeling once we are done. Lunch was served and soon Harriet Rothe and Wanda Traynor were setting up bingo chips and cards. We played for over an hour and ended with blackout. Blackout winner this week was Joy Heath. There was just enough time after bingo for a merry game of Uno.
The local news and coffee social is offered Thursday mornings. Lana Ingli joined us this week to read all the news from around the community and share the photos from the newspapers. After lunch, we got out the paints again and finished up our beautiful vases. Now we just wait for some flowers! Brad arrived with many puppies, some only a couple weeks old. But they are all so sweet and love to be held. They have a special way of bringing so many smiles to so many of our seniors. Pokeno completed the evening with Lou Seyffer taking first place.
It was a Mad Lib morning with Stacey on Friday. The stories are crazy and the belly laughs harkened folks to the dining room. Everyone enjoys making up those silly stories, and when read back to us, seldom make any sense. Lunch arrived and just before happy hour, we enjoyed some down time to read mail, watch a little television, or sit outside and enjoy the summer sun. The Earneys joined us for happy hour and it was great to have them back after a year of no entertainers. They were just as good as before and we loved their music. Our evening game was “Climb the Mountain” with Mary Ellen Coulson being the top winner. Saturday was full of family visitors and time to sit outside. We enjoyed a good game of bingo followed by outdoor bean bags. Top winners were: Fourth place: Alvin Bergmark; third place, Alice Girard; second place, Shirley Klinski; first place, Barb Smith. Sunday morning many of our folks caught church on television. We enjoyed getting together for a little social time and reminisced about cooking on hot summer days, while we munched on donuts and coffee. Dart ball was played in the afternoon with the following winners: Fourth place, Nancy Bishop; third place, Alvin Bergmark; second place, Shirley Klinski; first place: Lou Seyffer. We hope you will find time to stop in and visit.
