Monday morning dawned with the same frigid temperatures as the weekend, but the activities inside the care center were hot as we began the week! Card Club met after breakfast for seven exciting hands of UNO. The group had so much fun that we played right through Karaoke! Lunch followed and with no mail to deliver due to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, Noel got right to work with residents at Kitchen Corner. She and Chef Jeff mixed up a pan of Blonde Brownies, with Goldie Helwig and Kay George close by to supervise the baking extravaganza! Once the pan of bars came out of the oven to cool, it was time to gather folks for an afternoon game of Tic Tac Toss. It was a close game in which Goldie Helwig and Ivan Mason tied for fourth place, Deloris Anderson & LeRoy “Hank” Hankinson tied for third, and Alice Brantner, Jeff Halverson, Kay George and Larry Thompson all scored second. Shirley Klinski was the lone first-place winner this week! After supper, folks stuck around to play Monday night Bingo, with assistance by Marie and Joyce Berger. Thanks for all the help ladies!
Most of the day on Tuesday was very relaxed and quiet for everyone since no activity staff was in the building due to scheduling conflicts. Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel were here right away in the morning for Mass and I’m sure everyone sent up a prayer or two for the cold temperatures to be over soon!
The briskly cold Wednesday morning began with bowling and we had a large group of competitors ready to play! Kevin Bauer and Zeona Bechel tied for fourth place, Janet Robelia came in third and Dorothy Pfaffe was second. Milda Bautch and Shirley Klinski tied for first place this week! Lunch was enjoyed by all the hungry bowlers and then we assembled after the meal for Fruit Bingo. Harriet Rothe was here to call numbers and help with clean up and Irene Helmueller lent a hand with passing prizes, as well as clean up. You ladies are wonderful; thank you for all your help! Jeff Halverson was the big winner of $1 this week at Blackout Bingo! Once the game concluded, it was time to relax at the Mid-Week Social; this week, we enjoyed blonde brownies and ice-cold milk. What better way to celebrate National Blonde Brownie Day!
Thursday morning at our weekly Local News and Coffee group, Stacey read residents all the headlines in the paper and along with chatting about the news, everyone shared lots of good belly laughs too! After lunch, Stacey worked her way through a slew of ladies waiting for manicures. She filed and polished many sets of nails and each of our gals admired the pretty polish job once Stacey had finished. Thursday afternoons after manicures are always set aside for peaceful visiting and relaxation but once supper came and went, Noel assembled a small group in the dining room for an evening game of Pokeno!
The name of the game was Dart Ball Friday morning for residents and after four fun rounds, Jeff Halverson had snagged fourth place, Milda Bautch scored third and Herb Tschumperlin came in second. Dennis Fedie was our first-place winner this week! Folks refreshed themselves with lunch, and then Stacey and Noel decorated the dining room with snowflakes galore to prepare for our afternoon Happy Hour. Soon everyone gathered to take part in a Sno-Cone Party and folks could choose between cherry, grape or blue raspberry flavors! The icy treat was a perfect way to spend a winter afternoon. Supper brought an end to our frosty fun and once the meal concluded, the lights were turned down low for the Friday night movie “The Indian in the Cupboard.”
