Card Club met Monday morning in the dining room and while a table of Euchre players were engrossed in their game, Noel played a couple of exciting hands of UNO and Skip Bo with other folks. Everyone was having such a good time that Card Club ran almost up to lunchtime! Lunch was enjoyed by all and once mail had been delivered, Noel was joined by Chef Jeff Halverson for Kitchen Corner where they whipped up a double batch of butter almond cookies! These decadent little cookies went into the oven right away and once they were cooling, Noel gathered folks in the dining room for an afternoon game of Tic Tac Toss. Janet Robelia and LeRoy “Hank” Hankinson tied for fourth, Jeff Halverson came in third and Wanda Traynor and Yvonne Sinz tied for second place. Herb Tschumperlin was this week’s first place champion of the game! Supper came up quickly and then it was onto a game of Monday night Bingo with the help of Kathy Luebker and Teresa Fedie. Thank you, ladies!
After breakfast on Tuesday morning Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel led folks in a peaceful mass, while offering calming smiles to all those in the care center. After a morning spent in prayer, it was soon time for lunch and afterwards, the Popcorn Social: one of our most well-attended activities of the whole day! Who can turn down a delicious bowl of buttery and salty popcorn? After Stacey satisfied everyone’s savory snack spot with popcorn, she made her way around the care center for one-on-one visits with everyone. The weather was so pleasant that she and several residents watered flowers and plants (both inside and outside) and took strolls around the care center. Some folks wanted to sit outside and just soak up the sunshine! A little later, Pastor Darren from Lund Mission Covenant arrived for afternoon church, after which folks enjoyed a delicious supper.
Crashing pins and cheers from the crowd rang through the care center hallways Wednesday morning as residents came out for our weekly Bowling game! It was a big group of players this week, but we managed to squeeze in three rounds in which Sharon Gingras scored fourth, Jeff Halverson won third and Milda Bautch nabbed second place. Kevin Bauer was our first place Bowling winner this week! After lunch and mail delivery, residents came back to the dining room for an afternoon of Fruit Bingo with volunteers Lana Ingli and Shirley Klein here to help with the game. It was a lucky day for Herb Tschumperlin as he was this week’s Blackout Bingo winner of the $1 prize! Once the chips and cards were cleaned up, Noel passed out butter almond cookies to everyone gathered for the Mid-Week Social in celebration of National Almond Cookie Day. So yummy!
It was a gloomy and gray Thursday morning, but activity staff kept everyone’s spirits bright as Stacey started the day with our Local News and Coffee group! She read folks the latest headlines and kept everyone engaged with lively conversation until lunchtime. After the noon meal, Noel arrived for manicures and there were quite a lot of ladies waiting for a new coat of nail polish and some extra pampering! Many of the gals chose bright and bold colors this week such as brilliant blues, shimmering pinks and pretty purples. After everyone’s nails were dry, Noel rounded up a few residents into the dining room for a lively dice game of “Cover the Number.” congrats to Shirley Klinski for the win!
The end of our week came quickly as Stacey brought a crowd together in the dining room for Friday morning “Brain Games.” Two teams of residents raced each other to answer word picture puzzles (e.g.: DO OR---“open door”), with a chance to steal if the other team could not come up with the correct answer. The competition was tough but ultimately the winning team was Jeff Halverson, Goldie Helwig, Wilbur Black, Shirley Klinski and Wanda Traynor with 15 correct guesses, including several steals! After lunchtime was enjoyed and mail was passed out, there was a lot of time for visiting and one-on-ones before Happy Hour. Stacey and residents kept each other busy with plenty of jokes, balloon volleyball and even headed outside to water the plants. Rich Schroeder arrived with his guitar later in the afternoon for our Birthday Celebration Happy Hour and partied along with us as we tapped our toes and sang along to an hour of timeless tunes! After supper, it was time to dim the lights for this week’s Movie Night feature film “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale.”
