PLUM CITY CARE CENTER

A warm and humid Monday brought folks out to the lovely cool of the dining room to begin the week with music. Some sing, some follow along, and others just enjoy listening to the music: a universal language that provokes memories and feelings. Lunch was served, mail delivered, and a few naps taken until the smell of fresh popped corn aroused our tummies. Stacey delivered the tasty snack to us in our rooms. Just before supper, we enjoyed a fast paced game of bean bags. This week’s winners were: 4th place: Lou Sey_er. 3rd

place: Alvin Bergmark. 2nd place: Beryl Anderson. First place champs this week were: Shirley Klinski (second week in a row)!

“Name That Tune” was _rst up on Tuesday morning.

Songs of the season included “In The Good Old Summertime” along with “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”. We pondered, why it is always the apple tree? (“I’ll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time”, “Ida, Sweet As Apple Cider”, “In The Shade of the Old Apple Tree”). Our tune winners this week were: 5th place: Hazel Berger. 4th place: Penny Sta_ord. 3rd

place: Barb Smith. 2nd place: Mary Ellen Coulson. 1st place: Shirley Klinski. Our afternoon was spent reading, visiting through our windows and with friends and family on the internet. The afternoon ended with a fun game of Pokeno which is similar to bingo but uses playing cards. Big winners this week were: George Komro, Beryl Anderson, and Milly Fredrickson.

We found many foils out and about, ready and waiting for the exercise class to begin. It was a great turn out for “Movers & Shakers” with music to keep us motivated. We worked up an appetite for lunch and afterward had some time to ourselves to sit outdoors, enjoy the _owers in full bloom, or watch a bit of television. Stacey and Laura set up bingo and in no time, the dining room was full and everyone was winning candy! Black out winner this week was Mary Ellen Coulson.

The bowling bunch greeted the Thursday morning and they were ready to roll. With a smaller turn out, we were able to give folks many more turns. All in all, jour big winners this week were: 4th place: Irene Converse. 3rd place: Ron Hermundson.

2nd place ties: Zeona Bechel and Alvin Bergmark. 1st place champ: Shirley Klinski. Thank you to Marilyn Heath for keeping score. Lunch was served and mail was delivered. A quiet afternoon quickly became full of chatter from our ladies all _ling in for a manicure with

Jessica. It’s fun to visit, even if we must all be six feet apart and wearing masks! We tell stories, laugh and giggle, and wonder where they get all these silly names of nail polish color! A couple of our favorites include “Mauve It!” and “Petal Pusher Pink”. By afternoon’s end, we all felt a little more cheery being pampered with our friends.

Everyone got their groove on for drumming on Friday morning. Many like to make up their own beats and some folks even have solos. It’s a great way to pound out frustrations, exercise our arms, or just plain enjoy the music with drumming. A good lunch followed and after delivering the mail, Stacey and Laura set up for Happy Hour. We celebrated National Pina Colada Day with – you guessed it – pina coladas! Some with rum and most without. The dancing pineapples found their way into each room and everyone got in on the photo op. Garth Brooks serenaded us with his tune, “Two Pina Coladas” and everyone enjoyed some pineapples snacks. It was a boisterous end to a fun-_lled week.

Saturday brought another day full of sun. We treasure those days and save them in our minds for the cold, winter doldrums. After lunch, folks found their way outside to enjoy the season. We also celebrated National Make Your Own Sundae Day. What a wonderful “holiday”! We all had choices of bananas, cherries, chocolate, caramel or butterscotch syrup to adorn our ice cream. A fun game of dart ball ended the afternoon. Winners were: 4th place: Alice Girard. 3rd place: Shirley Klinski, Ron Hermundson.

2nd place: Milly Fredrickson. 1st place: Barb Smith.

On Sunday morning, everyone was o_ered the opportunity to worship through their particular church service on television. Later in the afternoon, Stacey delivered snacks and drinks to everyone! A fun time of trivia ended the afternoon. As the number of covid-19 cases increase in our county, we are saddened that we cannot yet have visitors. We advise everyone to be strong advocates in the community by promoting the message to follow all the guidelines by the CDC and set the example to mask, hand wash, social distance and take all the measures provided. Until the case rates go down in the county, it is unlikely we will resume a “normal” life. Case counts directly in_uence when we

will be able to resume visits from family and friends, so please, consider what you can do to keep this virus away. Take care everyone.

Playing the part of “Pineapple Queen” was the lovely Carol Bauer.

Ron Hermundson had fun during his photo op by the beach scene.

Shakin’ things up on the “beach” was Miss Marilyn “Maracas” Heath!

Richard Jarosinski met up with Captain Morgan and thus, the beginning of a great friendship during National Pina Colada Day, for our Happy Hour celebration!
