Poppy Day – Remember with gratitude

Posted

It’s May!  There are so any reasons to be grateful. We survived winter, spring is here, bringing green grass, bird song and the promise of many long summer days to come.

Members of the Ellsworth American Legion Auxiliary will be out and about on Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18, poppies in hand, encouraging you to wear a poppy to remember those who have served our country in the armed forces.

The American Legion family adopted the poppy as it’s official flower in 1924. Since that time veterans have made millions of the crepe paper replicas, a symbol of remembrance of those who have died defending our country. The proceeds are used to support the needs of veterans and their families.

Remember to bring a little cash if you are out and about this month and thank you in advance if you choose to donate.
