PRESCOTT – Cardinal Quest Extensions offer students numerous activities that broaden their learning beyond the classroom. Prescott students in grades 6-8 extensions classes practiced their writing skills by entering a variety of contests this fall and winter.
Alina Bauman, a sixth grade student from Prescott Middle School, created a fictional, illustrated, short story titled, “The Other Land” for the Wisconsin State Delta Kappa Gamma Society International’s Mary Jo Nettesheim Memorial Literary and Illustrator, an annual competition. To enter the contest, Bauman wrote and illustrated a 1,000-word original fictional story that was chosen to receive an award at the DKG State Banquet in Cumberland on April 20, 2023.
The plot follows youngster Cathy as she embarks on a quest to find her lost dog, Buster. Cathy finds herself in a foreign place amongst talking mushrooms and toads and she also encounters a pompous queen. Eventually, Cathy finds and rescues Buster by jumping into poisonous waters.
