Prescott American Legion Post 61 recently replaced the sign out front of the post—but made sure its history was not lost in the process. With the help of local craftsman McCoulter Eaton, the original sign was carefully restored and preserved. Today, it hangs proudly in the Legion’s basement hall, where it can be enjoyed by all who gather there—especially those stopping in for the Legion’s famous chicken fries.
The Post is also working to determine the original date of the sign’s creation, with assistance from Mary VanSchoonhoven, a major contributor to the Pierce County Historical Association, whose knowledge and dedication to local history have been invaluable.
The Legion extends its sincere thanks to Eaton for his outstanding restoration work and for the beautiful custom framing that now supports and protects the historic sign.
