Senior Deitrich Eich was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, as the Cardinals improved to 1-0 on the 2025 season.
Coach Jeff Ryan and his Prescott Cardinal baseball team gave home plate a workout in the 2025 season opener against Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau last Friday on the road.
The Cardinals plated six runs in the top of the first and cruised to a 13-3 six-inning win over the Red Hawks, helped, in part, with G-E-T surrendering 12 walks on the afternoon.
"You see that early in the year with pitchers struggling to throw strikes," said Ryan. "Even though the score was pretty lopsided, they're going to win their share of games. They have four or five guys that swing the bat really well."
Prescott senior Deitrich Eich was 2 for 3 at the plate with three RBI. Junior Matt Monteith was 2 for 2 with two RBI. Starting pitcher senior Dain Pechacek threw two innings for the win. Junior Evan Kochendorfer threw three innings in relief. Senior Cole Platson closed out the game pitching the sixth.
"Defensively, we had a few miscues, but Barrett Temmers had a great game at short," said Ryan. "That's going to be our approach all year. We have to throw the ball over the plate and catch the ball. As long as we continue to do that, we're going to be in good shape."
Prescott will host Osceola at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10.
