Prescott boys get much-needed win over Amery

Amery was what the doctor ordered for the Prescott boys basketball team last Tuesday.

Prescott entered the game with a 6-4 record and a 3-2 mark in conference. The boys were looking to end a two-game losing streak. Amery came into the game with a 1-5 overall record and a 1-4 record in conference.

Jordan Malmlov got Prescott on the board with a three that got the Cardinals going, and Dallas Wallin hit a three the next time down the court. Then Malmlov hit a deep three to give Prescott a quick 9-0 run and a 9-3 lead. Prescott scored their nine points in less than a minute. Prescott settled for three-point shots early, but three straight baskets inside gave Prescott a 20-6 lead and a time out from Amery with 9:17 in the left first half. Four of those points were by Aiden Russell, the first on a beautiful feed from Malmlov. Philip Seifert drove the lane from the right side to the left and laid it in left-handed to give the Cardinals a 20-point lead at 28-8. Prescott’s 1-3-1 zone defense was causing Amery all kinds of problems. Amery was either turning the ball over to the Cardinals or launching three-point shots. In the final minute of the half, Hayden Pattridge and Justin Syverson hit back-to-back three’s and Prescott would lead comfortably 38-20 at the break. Malmlov led the team with 14 points in the half.

Prescott moved the ball around inside and out to start the second half. Russell found an open Malmlov for three and Prescott lead 41-20. Malmlov would hit yet another three with 13:49 left in the game, Prescott was now doubling up Amery 48-24. The Prescott defense continued to confuse Amery offense, and the Cardinals rolled 79-40.

Malmlov would again lead Prescott in scoring as he scored 26 points, Wallin added 15 points and five rebounds, Tanner Dalman scored nine points, Seifert and Syverson each scored eight points, Aiden Russell had four points and seven rebounds, Teddy Huppert had four points and 11 rebounds, Hayden Pattridge had three points and a team leading six steals, and Damion Huppert scored two points.

The team is now 7-4 on the season and 4-2 in the Middle Border Conference. The 4-2 record is good enough for third place in conference. Prescott’s off for a week. They will return to action with a home and home with Baldwin-Woodville on next Tuesday and Thursday.
