Prescott boys jump to eighthranked in state

The Cardinal boys’ hoops team had a good week. After being previously unranked, the Cardinals jumped to eighth in Division 3.

Monday, they hosted Durand and defeated the Panthers 7263.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 42-28 lead in the first half and it was too much for the Panthers to overcome, even though they outscored the Cardinals by five in the second half of the game.

Parker Nielsen led scoring for the Cardinals with 30. Jacob Doffing and Walker Lenz chipped in 13 and 11, respectively. Lenz also led the team with seven rebounds. Nielsen grabbed six and Doffing grabbed five. Nielsen, Doffing and Dylan Malmov combined for nine of the Cardinal’s 12 assists in the nine-point victory.

Thursday, the Cardinals hosted Ellsworth and picked up their second Middle Border Conference win of the week to maintain second place.

With a final score of 92-70, the Cardinals spread the ball out and finished with four players scoring in double figures.

Nielsen finished with 22 and Doffing finished with 21. Mason Holte and Jordan Malmov both scored 11 and Ben Rohl finished with 8 after he made both outside shot attempts. Freshman Jordan Malmov led the team with eight assists to go along with five rebounds, a pair of steals and a block. Nielsen led the team with 10 boards, Doffing grabbed nine and Holte grabbed another seven.

Ellsworth’s Mason Andersen led all scorers with 26 points.

The following day, the Cardinals traveled to River Falls to take on the 10-3 Wildcats. Prescott fell to the powerful large school, 71-62. Nielsen and Doffing led the team in scoring, finishing with 19 and 18, respectively. Nielsen also led the team with eight assists. Doffing’s 13 rebounds led the Cardinals.

Wildcat JT Dougherty led all scorers with 20 points.

The Cardinals traveled to New Richmond Tuesday night before hosting Osceola Friday night and Gale-Ettrick-Trempleau the following evening.
