Prescott entered Friday night’s game on a nice three game win streak after an easy 91-73 win over Mondovi. The win improved the Cardinals record to 3-1 on the season. Osceola came into the game with an 0-1 mark on the season as they were crushed 76-32 by Saint Croix Central on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals would get off to a slow start and would not score until freshman Dallas Wallin drove in for a layup 3:30 into the game. The basketball cut Osceola’s lead to 5-2. The Cheiftains had a size advantage and they used it to their advantage on the boards. After three offensive rebounds on one possession they would take a 7-4 lead and the Cardinals would take a timeout. Phillip Seifert would spark the Cardinals with four points and Prescott would take a 12-9 lead with 8:00 left in the half. Aiden Russell would hit a three point shot to give Prescott a 17-13 lead with 4:30 remaining first half. The Cardinals however would not score again in the first half and the Cheiftains would lead 20-17 at halftime.
The second half started the same way as the first as both teams we playing a slow methodical game and neither seemingly could make a shot. Wallin would finally hit a three point basket to cut the lead to 22-20 with 15:31 left. Osceola would call timeout. Osceola continued to let Prescott shoot over there zone, and the Cardinals kept struggling to score. Prescott called a timeout with 10:13 remaining and the game tied at 33-33. Osceola had been pushing ball into the post all night, and the shots started falling in the second half. Prescott calls a timeout with 7:58 trailing 43-39. Prescott’s defense would take control of the game late clamping down on the Cheiftains. Wallin and Seifert both hit three points shots forcing an Osceola timeout. Prescott lead 50-46 with 1:23 left. The Cardinals would close out the game making their free throws and hold on for a 55-50 win.
Prescott 91 Mondovi 73
Monday night the Prescott Boys Varsity Basketball Team welcomed the Mondovi Buffalos to the Nest in a non-conference matchup. The Cardinals entered the game 2-1 on the season and on a two-game win streak. The Buffalos were 0-1 on the young season.
Sophomore star Jordan Malmlov started the game with a deep three to give Prescott the 3-0 lead. Malmlov then would sandwich two more three-point shots around a Justin Syverson three-point basket and Prescott lead 12-5. Mondovi would call for a timeout as the Cardinals were having no problems shooting over the Buffalo’s 1-3-1 zone defense. Malmlov would then hit three more three-point baskets to give the Cardinals a 21-5 lead. Malmlov hit six of his first eight threepoint attempts.
Prescott started to assert themselves on the boards. Phillip Seifert, Ben Rohl, and Dallas Wallin all had put backs baskets for the Cardinals. Malmlov also continued his white-hot start with two more three-point shots. Prescott called a timeout with 5:10 remaining until halftime with a 36-16 lead. Tanner Dalman entered the game and quickly scored nine points. Prescott cruise to a big 52-29 halftime lead. Malmlov lead the way with 27 first half points on eight three-point baskets and three free throws.
Prescott would get the first basketball in the second half a short jump shot in the lane from Wallin. After a Mondovi basketball, Wallin would hit a three-point basket to give Prescott a 57-31 advantage. Wallin would hit another three and make a nice feed to Rohl for a driving layup. Mondovi would call a timeout with 12:15 remaining in the game and Prescott leading 67-45. Mondovi would respond with a run of six straight to close to 70-54 with 9:34 left and Prescott would call timeout. A Malmlov three pointer and a basket by Teddy Huppert would quickly give the Cardinals a 75-54 lead. Mondovi would get no closer than 18 points the rest of the way and Prescott coasts to an easy 91-73 win.
Prescott owned the glass all night. The cardinals outrebounded the Buffalo’s 44-28 in the game. Wallin lead the way with 11 boards, Aiden Russell and Malmlov added seven, and Huppert and Rohl chipped in with five each. Syverson distributed nicely all night with eight dimes, Malmlov add seven more. Nine Prescott players scored on the night. Malmlov lead them with 33 points, Wallin 15, Seifert 11, Dalman 9, Pattridge 6, Syverson 5, Russell 4, Huppert 4, and Rohl 4.
Prescott returns to action on Friday night when they host the Osceola Cheiftains in a Middle Border Conference battle.
