Prescott Fire Department was paged to a structure fire at 12:42 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at a business located at 915 Canton St. in city limits. According to the incident report, flames and smoke were showing in the area.

“There was evidence from all the garage doors on the north building that smoke was high and had left smoke venting patterns on the door,” the report states.

Firefighters had to use saws to cut into the metal exterior of the building to reach the fire. Two people reported they had been inside and were the only people there. The road was shut down from Pine to Henry streets in order for firefighters to do their work.

The tenant told firefighters that the building caretaker had installed some heat tape in the days prior to the fire on some pipes in the attic. Pierce County property records list the owner as Prescott Legacy LLC out of Phoenix, Ariz. The building is used primarily for vehicle storage.

Crews were on the scene for about six hours, according to the report. St. Croix Gas, Xcel Energy and River Falls Fire provided mutual aid.

Firefighters were called back at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 when the fire reignited. The cause is undetermined.
