EAU CLAIRE — Prescott dance won its 30th consecutive conference championship at the 30th Annual Western Wisconsin Conference Competition in Eau Claire on Saturday. The team took home first place in both pom and jazz in the Middle Border Conference on the road to the overall MBC win.

“The conference winning streak means so much to our team,” Prescott Co-Coach Brianna Shirley said. “It’s always one of those fun first competitions earlier on in the season before our season really kicks into gear.”

Shirley said facing off against some great dancers can make for some stress, but once that hurdle is climbed it makes for a fun environment.

They knew what they wanted to work on in both pom and jazz, executing the plan to perfection.

“For pom, we felt the girls really sat into their formations, they really engaged their sharpness, they did a really good job thinking about what we had talked about going into the week and trying to portray that on the floor,” Shirley said. “For jazz, we really wanted them to tell the story this weekend. We’ve been really working on our emotion and how we portray what our song is talking about, and so that was something we really wanted to see on the floor this weekend and we felt that they nailed that.”

It was not just the team dances that showed out, with Macy Reiter taking first in solos in the MBC to land on all-conference first team and Makenna Hildebrandt and Addison Kellogg taking first in MBC ensembles for their duet.

With Regionals on Jan. 25 and State starting Jan. 31, Shirley said the Cardinals know exactly what they need to do to win it again.

“Just continuing to take in all those corrections we’ve received from judges, judges’ feedback, and just worrying about ourselves,” Shirley said. “We can only control what we can control.”

Shirley said they ask for 1% better than their last performance each time, and their only competition is the previous version of themselves.

Ellsworth and Spring Valley also had strong weekends with the SV Cardinals taking second overall in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference and Ellsworth taking second in the Middle Border Conference.

The Panthers took first in hip hop and second in pom and jazz.

SaVaya Moorhouse and Isabelle Pechacek landed on the first team all-conference in their solos and Addie Sabby and Savanna Hoyer made the second team all-conference for their ensemble.
