The Prescott Area Historical Society is pleased to have Prescott grad and former Prescott resident Tom Struve coming on Sept. 12, the Saturday of Prescott Daze, to do two shows for us. The first will be at 1 p.m., the second at 3:30 p.m.; each will be one hour.
Struve headed for the river directly from high school and had a varied career that has led him to his present position, a river historian on Mississippi Cruise lines. He will talk about 250 years of river history and its part in the development of the Midwest and our area. His shows have been a hit every time he has presented in Prescott. So come visit us and plan an hour with Tom.
The Prescott Area Historical Society buildings will be open on Saturday, Sept. 12 starting at 9 a.m. Come check out our exhibitions and wander through our river history. We will also be open Friday night the 11th from 4-7 p.m.
It was great to have Prescott Supt. Jim Reif stop in to donate a photo to PAHS and see what PAHS has to offer the public and his students. Who knows what may come of this visit? Each year we have had over 100 Prescott students visit us. Thanks for thinking of us.
Our River Speaker series rolls on after Struve’s show with local grad, river pilot, and historian Dallas Eggers, presenting “Logging on Midwestern Rivers-75 Years of Prescott History” Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. Nancy Earhart Burt will be the finale of our speakers with her show on her relative, Amelia Earhart at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Watch for a popup show later this fall by Chris Falteisek on his Scandinavian adventures of this summer.
Thanks to the thousands who have come to our doors this year from many states and foreign countries. Always interesting people with interesting stories. A few people have stopped in to get help from us in searching for their ancestors, one of our favorite things to do, connect families. Do you have a history interest? Do you have a few hours per month to engage your passion? We can always use new members with new ideas, new energy, and new history. How can you help?
PAHS is open each Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and arrangements can be made for other times. History Sharing Day is the third Monday each month at 1 p.m. with Chris Falteisek; bring your stories, photos, and artifacts to share. We have a new exterior paint job and signs to provide a more inviting Welcome to Prescott and the Great River Road. A new flower bed with more coming. Check our Facebook page for contacts and updates.
