PRESCOTT — Prescott Daze is back for another year with another exciting slate, combining the classic favorites with a handful of new events Sept. 4-7.
Chairs Angie and Annie Magee have spent their whole lives around the event thanks to their grandma who loved it. About 10 years ago they took over the street dance, and five years ago they became chairs.
They have seen firsthand how special the event is, and it’s not just one event that makes it special.
“I would just say the whole weekend, it’s hard to pick one thing,” Angie Magee said. “You get excited for the start of it, the stuff on Thursday, the street dance Friday and then the vendor stuff on Saturday and the Legion is always fun, but then you’re like, ‘Oh, well we still have the parade.’ It just keeps going.
“It’s a great community event. You see everybody because everybody’s out and about,” Angie Magee said.
With T-shirts from Prescott Chiropractic and River City Sweets, mojitos from Muddy Waters and more, plenty of businesses also do a little something special for the weekend.
“You get a little something from every business too, which is fun,” Annie Magee said. “You get a little of every business without having to go in and sit for hours at every business.”
New this year is a kick-off event at the Ptacek’s parking lot from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. The punt, pass and kick event from the Knights of Columbus will be moved there, along with food eating contests, a beer garden, food trucks and more.
In addition to the Friday street dance, a free family-friendly event will be held for Fairy Wonderland Park from 4-7 p.m. It is the third annual event where they are bringing in food trucks and activities to raise money to fund the park that a group of grieving mothers who have lost children are looking to build. The park was recently featured on KARE 11 news.
“Each year, more and more people show up and it just all fully goes to benefit their park that they’re building,” Angie Magee said.
“The last two or three years for sure, the food trucks have completely sold out of food,” Annie Magee said.
Music downtown Saturday will be from High School Garage Band. Members of the high school golf team will also sell food to benefit the program over the weekend.
At the Legion, check out Bingo on Thursday, Chiefs and Chargers football Friday, the beer tent, bar, euchre, food, music and more Saturday and the Packers Sunday.
At Lions Park there will be a golf cart decorating contest Sunday at noon. The grand parade is at 2 p.m.
