PRESCOTT – Prescott is holding its annual Prescott Daze festival Sept. 9-12, and the weekend will be filled with many events including a street dance, parade, vendor show and much more.

On Friday night, a street dance will be held at Mercord Mill Park featuring the Tim Sigler Band. The band will begin at 8 p.m., but gates for the event will open at 6 p.m. This is a 21 and older event and concessions will be available. Before the dance from 4-7 p.m., Taste of Churchill is returning where people can sample 20-plus kinds of beer, wine and spirits, Churchill’s signature snacks and pulled pork sandwiches. People can play games, participate in a silent auction, win raffle prizes and more. Proceeds for the event go to the UW-River Falls ROTC.

Saturday will be filled with several events, including a car show at 8 a.m., a vendor show starting at 9 a.m. and food booths and food trucks all day. There will also be live music on Saturday at the Prescott American Legion, featuring “The Bored” and a beer tent from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., at which various community organizations will sling drinks. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Legion Park will be the place for young ones with bounce houses, pony rides, train rides, Shave Crave and more.

The last day of the festival, Sunday, the grand parade will begin at 2 p.m. and food booths will be set up at Lions Park. During the parade, grand marshals be honored and recognized. This year the Prescott Area Chamber of Commerce is recognizing two citizens, last year’s grand marshal Char Magee and this year’s grand marshal Pete French.

Char Magee is honored for her 40 years of service and leadership in the Prescott community. According to the Chamber: “She has served as president in numerous organizations, including the Chamber, and chaired Prescott Daze for 15 years. Her selfless acts of giving back to the community deserve to be recognized.” She retired last year after owning her own insurance agency for 16 years.

This year’s grand marshal, Pete French, is the Director of the Prescott Area Food Pantry and a bus driver for the Prescott School District. He is being honored for the work and commitment he has put into the food pantry. According to the Chamber: “His tireless efforts to run and support the food pantry have resulted in a grant for close to $1 million for an expansion and community center to be built and serve the area.”

French also continued to keep the food pantry open and available to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic and served the community during the difficult time. He also brightens the holidays by playing Santa at various community events. The community nominated the grand marshals through the Chamber of Commerce.

On Aug. 30, Jeremy Stewart found the Prescott Daze medallion in the Free Little Library in Freedom Park.

There are many more events scheduled for the Prescott Daze weekend and a full schedule with more details can be found on the Facebook page or at prescottdaze.com. Other popular events include euchre, a middle school dance, the CAB Baseball drop and the Punt, Pass & Kick contest.
