Prescott downs Ellsworth in tough week for both teams

The Prescott Cardinals allowed two runs from Ellsworth in the first inning, but it was all the home team at Firehall Field after that on Tuesday, May 18. Prescott won 9-2.

Tanner Pechacek’s double got Ellsworth on the scoreboard.

The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the second when Hayden Pattridge singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

Prescott pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. Phillip Seifert singled in a run, and then the Cardinals scored on a stolen base. Tanner Dalman then singled and knocked in a run.

Prescott scored four runs in the fourth frame, sparked by singles by Justin Syverson and Dalman and walks earned by Ben Rohl and Pattridge.

Austin Fox pitched seven innings for the Cardinals, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out nine.

Ian Matzek, Landen Edgar and Carter Pierce shared pitching duties for Ellsworth. Pechacek collected two hits on the day for the Panthers.

The Cardinals were quick on the base paths, stealing eight bases. Rohl stole two.

The team then dropped a trio of games at Osceola Thursday, home against Pine Island Friday and at Baldwin-Woodville Monday.

Prescott is now 6-3 in Middle Border Conference play. The Cards host Amery Thursday and New Richmond Monday.

Ellsworth also struggled on the week, falling 5-0 at Baldwin-Woodville Friday and 9-0 at home against New Richmond Monday.
