Staff report
The Prescott girls track team was first and the Ellsworth boys were second at the Saint Croix Central Quad Meet last Tuesday.
Rain has been the name of the game in high school sports in the last week, but last week’s event got the teams some needed track time.
The Prescott girls finished with 103 points, followed by SCC, 67.5, New Richmond 61 and Ellsworth 32.5.
New Richmond won the boys competition at 97.5, followed by Ellsworth 71.5, SCC 57 and Prescott 43.
Prescott coach Emily Calabrese likes the way her team is shaping up.
“Our girls’ team is continuing to have very dominant performances as a whole,” she said. “I am proud of the leadership our upperclassmen girls are giving to our younger ladies this season. They are setting a foundation for the young girls on our team to follow for many years to come. Our boys’ team, although not scoring as high, has still had very solid performances. We are seeing a lack of depth on our boys’ side that makes it difficult to score enough points to win meets. Overall, our boys are performing well individually, setting a lot of personal records every week. I am proud of this team and everything they have done so far this season.”
With several weeks left in the track season until the WIAA State Meet in late June this year, Calabrese is looking for continued improvement.
“We have a very solid foundation set and are looking to ‘fine tune’ the smaller parts of our events as we head into the postseason,” she said. ‘The excitement within our team is high, and these athletes are ready to perform at high levels as we hit bigger meets in the next few weeks.”
