The Prescott girls team dominated all three opponents last week and won by an average of 19 points. Monday, they traveled to Durand and won 57-43. Thursday, they went to Somerset and defeated them 81-60. Saturday, they hosted Gale-Ettrick-Treampleau in the rescheduled double-header and came out with their seventh straight win, 63-41.
In the first matchup, the Cardinals were led by Isabella Lenz’s 28 points and five rebounds. Tori Benck finished with ten points. Erin Boatman dominated the post and finished with four points, five blocked shots and sixteen rebounds. Mckenna Johnson also scored four points and grabbed six rebounds. Sydney Matzek scored six points, grabbed three rebounds and recorded a pair of assists along with Benck and Lenz.
Lenz had an unbelievable game against Somerset and finished with 51 of the Cardinal’s 80 points on five of seven shots from outside the arc. She also recorded 11 rebounds and a pair of assists and steals. Lenz made 20 of Prescott’s 29 field goals.
Benck scored eight and recorded four steals while Johnson had three steals and nine rebounds. Isabel Matzek, Brynley Goehring, Boatman and Johnson each had four points and Ashley Rieken made a shot from outside the arc.
Junior Sydney Matzek efficiently recorded 14 points and only missed two of eight field goal attempts Saturday against G-E-T. Matzek also grabbed four rebounds, three steals and dished out four assists. Lenz led the team in scoring with 25 of her own and also grabbed eight boards. She played a great allaround game and also led the team with five assists and four steals. Mckenna Johnson snagged 11 rebounds to lead the team to go along with her pair of points and a block and a steal. Tori Benck recorded another eight points, a couple rebounds and three assists.
The Cardinals played Saint Croix Falls Monday night and travel to Baldwin-Woodville Tuesday. Friday, they host Ellsworth.
With a battle against New Richmond soon after, the Cardinals will try to stay focused this week.
“Our schedule has been a challenge for us this year,” Coach Rob Radloff said. “Our nonconference schedule has benefitted us and pushed our level of play. We have great potential and I’m hoping our level of play can continue through playoffs.”
The Cardinals have been physically tested with some extra games this season.
“I’ve never seen anything like it as far as the number of games we’ve played in a short time. We spend time on nutrition, rest and hydration every day. Girls are probably sick of me preaching about it.”
Radloff has been pleasantly surprised with the maturity his young team has shown this season.
“The growth with our team has been a great surprise. You wouldn’t know we only had a few players with Varsity experience,” Radloff stated. “We work every day to improve everyone and make our program stronger. The development of players builds competition within our team and we sometimes have more competition in practice than in some of our games.”
