Cardinals, Panthers sending plenty of athletes onto Sectional level
Staff report
The Prescott girls’ track team captured the WIAA Regional championship Monday.
The Cardinals finished with 162 team points, well ahead of second-place Baldwin-Woodville with 102 points. Bloomer was third at 97, followed by St. Croix Central 96, Altoona 84, Ellsworth 55, Elk Mound 50 and Somerset 43.
On the boys’ side, Prescott took third, while Ellsworth took fifth. St. Croix Central won with 147, followed by Elk Mound 106, Prescott 100, Somerset 85, Ellsworth 84, Bloomer 77, Altoona 60 and Baldwin-Woodville 37.
The top four qualifiers in each event qualify for the WIAA Sectional Meet, scheduled for Thursday, June 17 in Osceola.
Prescott and Ellsworth qualifiers are:
Girls 100 meter dash – Prescott’s Grace Carlson took first in 12.56 and Ellsworth’s Kaitlyn Peterson was third in 13.34.
200 meter dash – Abby Syverson of Prescott was first in 25.74.
400 meter dash – Kayla Kressin of Ellsworth was first in 1:03.89. Ella Johnson of Prescott was second in 1:04.30.
800 Meter Dash – Prescott Maddie Matzek was second in 2:34.84.
3,200 meter run – Amanda Auleciems of Prescott was third in 13:19.10.
100 meter hurdles -Prescott’s Shelby Sizemore was second in 17.95.
300 meter hurdles – Sophie Ripley of Prescott was fourth in 53.98.
4×100 meter relay -Prescott’s team took first in 50.33. Runners were Grace Carlson, Jessie Urman, Abby Syverson and Tori Benck.
4×200 meter relay – The same Prescott team won in 1:45.84. Taking third was the Ellsworth team of Corynn Jahnke, Payton Langer, Ashlyn Townsend and Peterson in 1:56.38.
4×400 meter relay -Prescott and Ellsworth finished one-two. The Prescott team of Ella Johnson, Matzek, Sophie Ripley and Urban won in 4:18.96. Ellsworth’s team of Langer, Whitney Olsen, Chloe VanWatermeulen and Kressin posted a time of 4:24.66.
4×800 meter relay -Prescott’s team of Sierra Stancer, Abby Overland, Faith VanHolbeck and Alee Warp took third.
Pole vault – Prescott snared the top three spots. Matzek won with a vault of 8=03, followed by Ella Johnson (7-09) and Addison Huppert (7-06).
Long jump – Bench was second with a jump of 16-02.50.
Triple jump – Bench was second at 22-10.
Shot put – Prescott’s Mallory Boles took fourth with a throw of 3104.75.
Discus – Ellsworth’s Nyla Wilford was fourth with a throw of 93-08.
Boys 100 meter dash – Prescott’s Grant Stanton was third in 11:53 and Josh Peterson took fourth in 11.58.
200 meter dash – Gergen won in 23.64, and teammate Dominick Shelstad was fourth in 24.58.
1,600 meter run -Ellsworth’s Alex Pazdernik took third in 4:47.98.
3,200 meter run -Pazdernik took second in 10:46.66, and teammate Addison Peters was fourth in 11:13.83.
4×100 meter relay -Ellsworth won in 44.47. The team was comprised of Wyatt Blomberg, Bo Hines, Ashten Quade and Shane Lange. Prescott’s team of Gergen, Grant Stanton, Andrew Lee and Aiden Russell took second in 45.44.
4×200 meter relay – The same Ellsworth team as the 4×100 won in 1:31.98.
Prescott’s team of Stanton, Gergen, Kyle Budworth and Russell was second in 1:34.41.
4×400 meter relay -Ellsworth took first in 3:37.15. Teaming up for the win were Wyatt Blomberg, Kohl Flock, Lange and Quade. Prescott’s team of Damion Huppert, Ryan Zerneke, Dylan Bierbauer and Budworth were second in 3:44.06.
4×800 meter relay -Prescott’s team of Bierbauer, Eric Korfhage, Tyler Loucks and Zerneke took second in 8:54.69.
High jump – Prescott’s Russell won with a jump of 5-10 Pole vault – Matthew Lynes of Prescott was third at 9-00.
Long jump – Ellsworth’s Bo Hines was first with a jump of 19-04.75, and teammate Joey Hote was third at 19-01.25.
Triple jump – Hove took second with a total jump of 38-

Prescott’s Tori Benck took second place in the long jump at Monday’s WIAARegional Meet in Bloomer. She took second and advanced to the Sectional meet.
