PRESCOTT – Local historian and author Chuck Sundby will give a short presentation at 1 p.m. July 18 at the Prescott History Center (235 Broad St. N.) After the presentation he will sign his books and answer questions. Cost will be $50, cash only please. There will be artifacts of various sorts from Prescott’s past for you to see. Come meet the author and relive some of Prescott’s fascinating past.

Sundby has been a part of our rivers and river bluffs for 86 years and counting. He has lived near the river, fished our rivers, hunted the hills and bluffs around the rivers for small game, deer, and rattlesnakes. His entire life Sundby has enjoyed a love of history. His interests became focused by former Police Chief Myron Denning, who after talking history with him said, “You should write a book.”

After several decades of research, phone calls, letters, and interviews with people who worked at the Prescott Spinner Company, Sundby has completed his book. It contains history only found in his book along with a detailed description of life in a small river town. Incorporated in the book is a complete history of the famous Prescott Spinners, which are still manufactured today.

Follow the founder from his bedroom spinner making location above the present River City Sweets, to a company known as one of the premier fishing lure companies in the nation. At its peak his crew of local women and men made over 250,000 lures per year. Sundby was also one of the founders of the Northwest Sportshow which started in 1933. The stories continue in his book “Charles Henry Stapf & The Prescott Spinner Story.”
