Prescott is growing with residential, business additions

PRESCOTT – The city of Prescott has been rapidly developing and growing in recent years. According to the world population review, the city has reached its highest population of 4,315 in 2021. The city is welcoming new businesses and residential areas with plans to continue growing.

Pierce and St. Croix counties are among the fastest growing counties in Wisconsin, creating more opportunities for smaller towns to grow and develop. The city of Prescott has approved additions to residential areas, started development projects and is expanding areas for new businesses to open.

“There are a lot of exciting things in the works,” City Administrator Matt Wolf said.

The city is expanding in several aspects and the projects are both short- and longterm.

Two residential developments are currently under construction within city limits and preparing for new residents. An expansion plan for the current industrial business park is also in the works. This will allow for more space in the fast-growing residential areas.

“Palmetto's second addition was approved in August. It’s a mix of single-family homes and townhomes and then the Great Rivers second addition was approved in August as well. They are working on infrastructure and then those lots will be ready to sell as well,” said Wolf.

The Palmetto is located in an established neighborhood off Walnut Street, with 22 single-family home lots and 16 townhome lots. Great Rivers addition is located off 570th Avenue/Hollister Avenue.

A condo style site is also under construction.

“The Great River Road Flex Space Building is a condo style storage building,” Wolf said. “The first building is currently under construction and will have 12 units.”

The units will have the option to include a bathroom and a work space for hobbyists to utilize. It is unique because the units are similar to storage spaces, but they are actually owned by the buyers and used however they see fit.

The business park has been approved for a 150-acre addition.

“We did just recently buy the 150 acres for the expansion of the business park that we are working on marketing to industrial businesses and that is an exciting project in the works that hopefully will bring some good paying jobs to the community.”

The city is hoping to welcome more businesses and industries to the community with these development expansions.

The riverfront project is also a way that Prescott can improve on development within the city.

“The riverfront project is a project where we can beautify and update our riverfront and make it so that people driving by Prescott, it can be the gem of the area and we just want to improve that and continue to bring people in with that,” said Wolf.

Council member Bailey Ruona said, “We want to keep traction going on the riverfront project and the Coulee River Trails project. We are looking at these great opportunities as they come forward, so lots of great things are happening right now.”

The city is seeing a lot of changes and the council is open to approve more growth opportunities as they become available. Prescott is a city to watch as Pierce County continues to grow each year.
