PRESCOTT – Preparations and planning are underway for a major project in Prescott, set for 2028, when the Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to resurface highways 10 and 35.
The approximately 2.5-mile-long project runs from 1,700 feet west of Highway 29 on Highway 10 through downtown and south to Wacota Street.
DOT representatives attended the Prescott City Council’s Parks and Public Works Committee meeting on Monday, Feb. 20.
Plans include:
Parking along Highway 10 north of Cherry Street could be removed as part of the project.
From Kinnikinic Street to Wacota Street, the DOT plans to put a six-foot sidewalk along the curb. However, the city would like a 10-foot wide multi-use trail separated some distance from the roadway. That option would cost $400,000, with the city responsible for $88,000.
The city has also requested a sidewalk and pedestrian access at Highway 10 and Highway 29/35. That would cost the city approximately $30,000 and would require modifications to traffic signals across Highway 10.
Total project cost was estimated at $1.6 million, with much of that being for the retaining wall replacement. The DOT reported that the project will move to the design phase.
